Vista X64 does not recognize my EVGA 8800 gtx

Hi
Would anybody know why Vista X64 SP1 does not recognize my EVGA 8800 GTX graphics card, I just got my EVGA X58 MB along with an Intel core i7 920 CPU and six gigs of corsair ddr3 dominator ram, I've installed Vista X64 SP1 and everything gets recognized except for the 8800 gtx graphics card. I've tried installing the 64 bit 182.06 nvidia drivers but without vista X64 recognizing the cards in the first place it's pointless, i just keep crashing when i reboot until I go into safe mode and remove the drivers. Does anybody else have this issue any help would be greatly appreciated.
TIA

whenever i reformat, my cards are listed as "standard vga". i have to manually install the drivers before windows will recognize the cards. try installing a different driver or see which one your card manufacterer recommends. guru3d.com has every driver ever published i think.

When you tried installing the 182.06 drivers, did you just double click on the executable or did you right click the file and "Run as Administrator"? With Vista, this does makes a huge difference.

Another way is to extract the files from the 182.06 exe to a folder you can recognize and get to to at a later time, go to the device manager and double click on the video card device (std vga driver should be listed) and click on Update driver and look for the folder where you extracted the file and run it from there.

Good Luck

As a last measure, or perhaps first? make sure your card is seated correctly in the PCIe primary slot.

Thanks for the advice, yes they are listed as "standard vga" i did the manual install this morning and it recognized my card as a Nvidia 8800 gtx and it finally went into 1680x1050 res but i could not get the Nvidia control panel to open i'm now in the process of reformatting and trying again.

|'ve moved that card around like it was on a merry go round a little looking around and i see that the 182.06 are not 64 bit friendly for a lot of people they suggested the 175.16 so i will try those ones and run it as administrator, thanks for helping out at least now im getting somewhere thanks kword88 and AstaLaVista for the help

Don;t get to hang up on the ntunes issue, that is always a problem for me so I try avoiding it like the plague.
