When switching user, my desktop gets messed up

when i do a switch user and log back in to my profile, some of my desktop icons change position, the "Notes" gadget moves position, the ObjectDock dock is now on my left monitor, and other things happen.

i'm running a dual-monitor setup.
Core 2 Quad Q6600
4 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT
Vista Ultimate x64

i'm attaching a file that has a screen shot of my desktop(s) before the switch user and after

i've been looking for a solution, but have had no success. please help!
