Vista graphics problem!

Hi

I recently got a new pc.

Its got:

2x 500gb hd
6gb ddr2 ram
2.3ghz X3 cpu
nvidia geforce 9500 GS 512mb dedicated graphics card
windows vista home premium 64bit os
22" hp screen (recommended 1680 - 1050)

Its been fine apart from one thing, generally on the desktop and browser windows...etc, the logo and things have jagged edges which looks pretty bad. Im not sure if its just this that has the jagged edges as i have only recently got it set up.
I have it running on 1680 - 1050 resolution and colors set to highest 32bit.

Im not sure if this is it, but the pc origionally came with a 128mb graphics IGP. I then replaced this with my graphics card, i presume the IGP has been automatically disabled because my graphics card is being used as the main one. Maybe it is a problem with my graphics card that ive put in.

Could anyone please tell me what is going wrong? as ive had new pcs before which have not had the same problem, although this is my first 64bit.

I would check in the BIOS for a setting that tells the board which display adapter to use- onboard or video card. I haven't seen one that auto disables the onboard graphics if a video card is installed.

You didn't give the make& model of you motherboard so I'm giving you a couple areas on an older board and a newer one (AMD 790GX chipset).

Older system- nForce 3 chipset, Phoenix/Award BIOS

Section- Integrated Peripherals
Should be a listing called Init Display First. Select this, press Enter should give you a listing of choices.

Newer- AMD 790GX chipset

Selection- Chipset Menu

Look for Internal Graphic Configuration. Press Enter, should give you choices.

These may not be the same as your BIOS but it gives you an idea of what to look for.

to hop on scajjr's coattails-- in your bios (and it may not be worded exactly), but you will have to look around until you find an entry that (closely) states: primary graphics adapter. it may look like or similar to this:

primary graphics adapter:
IGP > PCI > PCIe
PCIe > PCI > IGP

you would want to select the second entry to enable you motherboard PCIe as the primary graphics adapter.

after you make the selection, save the configuration, reboot. when windows starts, go to device manager and make sure that you only show one display adapter currently working / enabled. when that's done, make sure you have the current drivers and set your screen resolution to your monitor's native resolution.

Well i went on the system bios again, but im quite sure it doesnt show any graphics drivers there.

Theres a few tabs, the main one, advanced, boot and exit (if i remeber correctly)
The main one just shows my processor and the ram installed, the advanced one shows things like hard drives and some other onboard things, such as the lan. The only onboard one i wasnt sure about was the onboard 1394.

Apart from that the boot tab and the exit tab dont have it eaither.

Am i looking in the wrong place or is it not showing?

One thing i should mention, in device manager it does only show my nvidia graphics card, it doesnt show the IGP there even though i havent disabled it.

thanks
