Re: Need help with graphic, card

Your system is fine for SD video...but it will push it for High Definition video. Especially if it's H.264 variety.

My understanding is Graphics cards don't have a big play in Stills (photos) & video as the rendering (2D) is done by the CPU.

By all means buy the Graphics card as it's a good price but if funds are very limited I'd go for more RAM. But that's just me.

+ 1

if you have a Tiger direct in your area, they have the same card for 49.99

BFG GeForce 8400 GS Video Card - 512MB DDR2, PCI-Express 2.0, (Dual Link) DVI. VGA, HDTV BFGE84512GS64E at TigerDirect.com

I don't believe it needs power direct from the psu so you'll be alright.

Good Luck

Re: Need help with graphic, card

unless of course you would want to go with ati.......
a HD3650 is only about $80 and will be more than powerful enough for anything you do
or a HD3450 for about $50.........

Re: Need help with graphic, card

no 3450, get the 3650.. and it's not $80, it's $49
Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100236L Radeon HD 3650 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

Id say instead of getting a 8400. get the 8600GT. or GTS.

or even better. get a 3850, it could run with a 300w psu probably.
