Got back from Iraq, same MOM.exe error years later.. Help?

Firstly, I bought an XPS from Dell after my first tour in Iraq about 5 years ago. I had a Radeon card, and remember very well towards the end of the cpu's life the infamous "mom.exe" error. After hours researching on the web, I never found an answer and let it go. I could no longer access CCC and figured I'll let it go as I was being called for another vacation in Iraq.

Now that thats out of the way, I am a bit frustarerated, as I just received my XPS 630i from Dell yesterday. I just got home from Iraq a month ago, and I was super stoked to get this thing. Quick specs:

    -Intel Core2 Quad
    -Vista 64bit
    -8GB Ram
-ATI 4850x2 (Crossfire not detected, according to steam system info, although it should be? I'm assuming because CCC cannot be accessed.)

For some reason Dell sent me this great PC with drivers from ATI from Nov 08. CCC was working fine, so I decided to see if their were drivers to be updated, and their was, from Feb 20 09 I believe. Then the fun began, as I remember all too well. I installed teh new drivers and then after the restart got the error msg regarding the MOM.exe

    ---------------

When I try to run CCC, I get a error msg similar to this:

"Cannot load file or assemble 'CL.I Implementation, version= 2.0.2789.36944, culture=neutral, publickeytoken=90ba9c70f846762e' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified."

Thanks for reading this long, I know it's a bit, so bear with me..

I know .NET is usually the fix, but after spending 3+ hours on the phone with some indian dude from Dell on a FRIDAY night, I couldn't handle it anymore and asked to speak to the supervisor. He hung up on me.

Anyway he had no idea and that he just had the same problem the previous day and they decided to use an old ass driver from ATI. Well that doesn't work for me, as I need these new drivers for the crossfire and what not.

I have .NET 3.5 SP1, so it's the most up to date version.

After hours of looking on the web, researching on how to fix this, I got no where. I stumbled upon here through another forum, and hope to god you guys can help me out. After coming home from that hell hole, I thought ATI would of fixed this goddamn problem that I remember from years ago!

If I can't get this fixed, I'm thinking about sending it back to Dell and having them put in nVidea cards in it, as I guess they don't have this dilemma. I'd rather not though, cuz I like what I got.

So.. guys/gals.. if you could.. please provide some insight on this.. your help is VERY much appreciated.

Hi mate, your best bet here would be to completely remove all ATI drivers etc and start from scratch.

Make sure you have the latest Catalyst 9.2 driver suite from ATI:
    Drivers & Tools | GAME.AMD.COM

    Also grab driver sweeper:
    Guru3D - Driver Sweeper

    METHOD ONE:
Uninstall ccc from Control Panel>add/remove programs
    ReBoot into safe mode
Run driver sweeper to clean all ATI references
    Reboot normally
    Install cat 9.2

METHOD TWO: (useful if the CCC un-installation fails or hangs)

Go to device manger and un-install the driver from there. Click the check box to completely remove driver. Don't reboot if it asks you to.
    cat-uninstall.jpg
    delete.jpg

Now run driver sweeper to remove all traces of ATI drivers etc

In explorer, delete any of the remaining ATI folders ie
    C:\ATI ; C:\Program Files\ATI ; C:\Program Files (x86)\ATI

    Reboot

Check taskmanager that no residual ATI software is running ie ati2evxx.exe

Now run the Catalyst 9.2 installer and fingers crossed you're good to go

Got some good news, I did as you told, and the MOM.exe error is gone!

However, I still, for a different reason, cannot access the CCC. Now it gives me this message whenever I try to access it. I try to click "Advanced View" but it does nothing. Any ideas?

I really appreciate the help, as I spent hours on the phone with Dell and they have no idea what to do. They tell me to rollback to 7.1, which I am definitely not doing. That is just sweeping the dirt under the rug. I am supposed to have a conference call with ATI and Dell support tomorrow night, but who knows if that'll happen.

    So... any clue?

Sorry for the delay, I definitely wouldn't rollback to 7.1, or use the "dell" branded drivers. Cat 9.2 focused a lot on crossfire issues as well as improvements for a lot of games. 7.1 is quite a backwards step.

It's odd that CCC won't open. But there's two more things I can think of.

    A)
Don't uninstall the driver, but simply run the setup again.

    if that fails:

    B)

Try method one again from the previous post, but before you run driver sweeper download and run the cat uninstaller:
    http://www.sevenforums.com/attachmen...ninstaller.zip

Then run driver sweeper as a follow up. Hopefully between the two apps, whatever is causing the corruption will be removed.

*NB I forgot to mention that you should run Driver sweeper with admin privileges (right click on C:\Program Files (x86)\Driver Sweeper\DriverSweeper.exe "run as Administrator"

Getting Cat drivers to install can either be utterly simple or infinitely frustrating. Most of the time it's the latter

Re: Got back from Iraq, same MOM.exe error years later.. Help?

Another set of good news/bad news, I'm afraid.

Well, it worked! I can access CCC v 9.2 now after cleaning everything ATI related before installing it again.

Now.. when I open CCC, the Crossfire option no longer appears. I remember it being there when I first turned the computer on a few days ago, using I believe 8.5 CCC from Nov 14 I believe.

I know I'm not the only one either, as I've seen it in other forums. Unfortunately they just argue amongst each other and no solution is ever found.

I remember reading one guy went back to the 8.5 driver and he got the option back, but that's not really the best way to go about this, IMO. Sooo frustrating.. !

Another question I can't seem to find a concrete answer to after hours of researching..

I have two monitors I want to use with this machine. For example, playing a game on my main 24" screen, and having the other one next to it for chatting, firefox, etc.

Some say that while Xfire is on, the 2nd screen is turned off. Others say it will work fine.

I'm ready to pull my hair out at this point lol. I remember ATI having some problems with my 9800 PRO back in the day.. but this is ridiculous.

Bottom line is.. I want to be able to use the two monitor function as I stated, is Xfire right for me? Or am I better off returning this, getting one BIG (nVidea) card, and pray I don't come across this mess again.

I really like what I have, so I'd rather not, but this is getting a little ridiculous for a damn video driver..

So.. again.. any help? You've been great so far, thanks again.

Re: Got back from Iraq, same MOM.exe error years later.. Help?

Sorry mate, I'm a little stumped here as I don't have a crossfire setup to test with. However I don't see why having crossfire enabled would disable multi-monitor support. Try enabling the second monitor in "displays manager".

As for the lack of a crossfire tab, check the display adapters in device manager and see if it's reporting one card or two. This might point you in the right googling direction.

If second card is disabled, you may have to click on it and update the driver manually. (the driver / .inf should be C:\ATI)

Sorry I couldn't help on this
