9500GT 1GB good?

Hello,
I was wondering if this is a good card or not here is the exact link
Online Computer Store - Umart Online® Your one stop Computer Shop for computer parts, notebook and new system

i only have a $120 AU budget
can anyone recommend a better card?

i want to upgrade from my crap 128mb onboard card that doesn't even give me Aero
so anything would be better lol

Thanks

Braydon

While it will be much better than your onboard, if you can stretch your budget a few dollars the Sapphire HD4670 512M GDDR3 PCIEwould be a much better choice. They have it listed at $127 AU (search for it there as their links don't work too well).

Thats the same card I have, and it kicks ass! At least compared to my 7600...

Anyways, I can run Assassins Creed on Max with this card, and its silent and cool. Doens't look all that amazing and its pretty small, but it works.

Agreed, from that site the 4670 is your best choice for the money. There are some good choices at the 160 aud price point as well.

On Vista, it (the NVidia) gets a 5.9. In Seven, I think it was like a 7, but I don't remember...

Re: 9500GT 1GB good?

It's a good card. It is better than the 4670 in somethings, and slower than it in others. One thing to consider with the 9600 though, it requires an external power connection where the 4670 doesn't. What kind of power supply is in your HP (make and model, total watts, amps on the 12V rail)?

Re: 9500GT 1GB good?

Is the new GPU is going to be installed in the unit shown in the My System Specs? If yes, as stormy13's concern, you need a PSU at least 500W for the new card. With the specs shown, HP will only install a 350W to 400W PSU in it. So, you need an upgrade.

Another thing is that your CPU is a bottleneck for which the powerful card you are looking at will not do much improvement then a less expansive card. I would try a used 8600 for a few dollars to see if you like it. You'll be able to play pretty much all games in medium setting with it. Sorry for the bad news.
