Both ATI & Nvidia are good right now, nvidia being a bit more expensive tho. Just depends on your preference, ie ive had 90% good experience with nvidia & all bad with ati, wheras others have had bad experience with nvidia etc.

What games are you looking to run?

A 9800GT will be fine, then, but I'd recommend going for the new GTS250. Basically a 9800GTX+ but a new revision of it.

And getting a GTS250 will be fine for what you want to play and will play both with no problem, and you'll save yourself some money from not getting the GTX series.

Though if you want something a bit better then a GTX260 is a great card as well.

not great compared to other people..
I've decided to just build an entirely new computer from scratch. I called my local computer hardware store and this is what i've pretty much decided on.

All the below prices are AUD
Graphic Card: RADEON 4850 $260
CPU: Quad Q8200 $295
PSU: 500W $90 (Not sure of the model..)
Motherboard: $110 (Not sure of the model..)
Tower Case: $75
Total: $830 AUD

Only have $420 so i convinced my parents to take my computer, in return give me what i need for a new one. May have to get just a Core 2 DUO but there isn't much of a price difference since i was gunna spend $238 on one... hopefully they will give me the extra $410.

Below is my soon to be old PC.
Motherboard: ASUS P5LD2 SE...
Graphics Card: ASUS EAX550HM512..
RAM: Kingston 1G @ 533MHz
PSU: GPS-350EN-102 A (350W)
CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 3.00GHz 3.01GHz

I read that it's stupid to overclock a GPU.. They can raise to high temperatures (computer bomb) and you would probably spend more money on a graphic card getting a cooler for it, when you could just buy a better one for more..

eg. you save $200 or so but then how much are coolers?

Also from what i've read I personally prefer Nvidia..

no overclock the cpu ;) not the gpu. that will help the gpu out :)
