A Comparison

I recently bought two nVidia 9800 GT's for my computer at about $120 a piece. I just want to know if I would have been better off buying one nVidia GTX 260 or something similar for about the same price as the two 9800's?

Link for the GTX 260 - http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...3&Sku=P450-264

Re: A Comparison

I think you'd be better off getting a single 260.. the 9800GT's are ok, but SLI doesn't always work in all games, many games don't even support SLI, and in those games you'd only get a single 9800GT performance. the 260 would blow that away. so for the overall gaming experience I'd get the 260. it's a very strong card. I have 2

I HATE... i mean HATE tigerdirect, but that's a decent price for the Black edition, but make sure you get the Core 216 version.

I personally would get this. it's 9 dollars more. from a better site, newegg.com. It is eVGA, and they have the BEST warranty in the VGA market.. it's the newer 55nm Version of the card, so it will have less heat output and run cooler, and quiter with the better fan. and it is the Core 216 version of the card. and you get Call of Duty World at War for FREE.. and it's stock overclocked.

Newegg.com - EVGA 896-P3-1257-AR GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 Superclocked Edition 896MB 448-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

or get the stock speed of 576 Mhz Core clock version.

the newer 55nm version is the best card, if you don't know what that is. let me know. I'll explain.

Either that, or get this. the MSI with Far Cry 2 for free. and for $189.99 with a MIR of $30 dollars, so it will be $159.99 and you get far Cry 2 for free. this is still the newer Core 216 version of the card. but not the smaller 55nm Processor card. but still a good deal, only downside would be MSI's 1 year warranty, vs eVGA's LIFETIME warranty.

Newegg.com - MSI N260GTX-T2D896-OCv2 GeForce GTX 260 896MB 448-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

Great deals at newegg.com.

Re: A Comparison

oops.. I didn't notice your link had FC2 for free...

now I see that. Scratch the MSI.. they have a crappy warranty. and it's not overclocked.

I'd either get the Tigerdirect black edition with the FC2 free game.

or I'd get the eVGA with COD 5 Free Game. but the eVGA is the newer card with the smaller processing Fab.. thje 55nm so it will run cooler, and quieter. (I'd rather have COD 5 than FC2)

good luck!

Re: A Comparison

a single card solution is always preferable over a twin.

performance wise, the 9800s (where optimized) may just pull ahead, but only by using far more power & chucking out enough heat to boil a kettle....

the GT200 would of been better, but its not the end of the world, SLI 98GTs are not to be sniffed at, its still a very powerful combination..

Re: A Comparison

That's what I figured. I feel kinda dumb now for buying the 9800 GT's but maybe later I could get a better card or two.

The 9800's work for the games I have very well but I'm afraid some future games won't give me the performance I'd like.
