What is the white monitor cable for?

My PC and graphics card have a hook-up and I have the cable to, that is white.

What is this cord?? I cant use it, it just says no signal if its hooked up.

What im trying to do is have 2 monitors hooked up, my grahics card has the regular VGA cable I guess, and this white port, which I dont understand and doesnt work anyway.

Any info on this?

The cable with the white plugs at each end is a DVI (Digital Visual Interface) cable. This is the video element of an HDMI cable and enables your monitor to display higher quality graphics. Your monitor and PC will automatically detect if either the analogue (Blue plugs) or DVI (White plugs) is connected on boot up and will then configure itself accordingly. It is not possible to use both the DVI and VGA cables at the same time.

Did you reboot your PC after you connected the DVI cable? Did you disconnect the VGA cable?

Not all graphics cards support multiple monitors, if your card could output to 2 monitors it would have 2 connections of the same type. It is a lot easier to answer your questions if you complete the system specification section.

Yeah I unplugged the VGA and just hooked up the DVI and rebooted, just kept saying no signal check cables, dont understand why =/

I would assume my card could support 2 monitors, it does have the VGA DVI and S-video on it, but I mean 1st step is atleast getting the white DVI cable to even work or recognize a monitor.

What monitor and graphics card do you have? If you view the properties of the monitor when the VGA cable is connected, what is the name of the monitor?

Do you have one or 2 DVI connections on the card?

Unless anyone knows better, I can't see how your card can support multiple monitors with only 1 VGA and 1 DVI connector. How old is your graphics card?

He can use a dual monitor setup with that graphic card, just one monitor will have to be connected via VGA.

As for there being no output on the monitor with DVI, my first bet would be to change the source like what Dwarf posted.
