Trying to narrow it down and stay around $400. Asus has 300 cd /m^2. I wonder if it will be darker than a 400 monitor.

The Asus one. The 300cd/m2 with the 20,000:1 contrast ratio will crap all over the Viewsonic.

You say they both come with HDMI? does that mean they both have built-in speakers?

Because if you already have stand-alone speakers I would STRONGLY recommend staying away from HDMI monitors with built in speakers as their quality is usually crap.

DVI in is a MUST if you ask me.

OH nvm , you already bought one lol

My other OS is a Linux =)
I use either my USB Headset or my Harman Kardon AVR-347 HDMI 7.1 receiver. I don't really use monitor speakers for anything. I wish they made more monitors without adding garbage speakers.

I have a Sony Blu-Ray, Toshiba HD-DVD, Sony 42" HDTV, my receiver, DVR with external hard drive. I am pretty well set for home theater. My workstation is for gaming and work, not movies.
