Two Video Cards, Two Monitors. Two Drivers?

I am running Vista64 with two ATI video cards.

A 4850 card drives a 19" widescreen monitor @1440X900 (Main).

A X1300 card drives 1 19" SD Monitor @ 1280X1024 (Secondary).

After 9.2, the X1300 card is no longer supported by ATI's 9.4 and 9.5 drivers. Install fails and defaults the system to VGA. Still using 9.2 without any problem.

Question is; Can two different drivers be loaded? 9.5 for the 4850 card and 9.2 for the X1300? If so, how would I go about installing separate video drivers for each card?

Theoretically, it's possible to install how many drivers you want, but I don't know if different versions of the same driver can coexist. It's better to ask ATI for this.

Why not just use the 4850 for both monitors? I have a 22" LG widescreen in 1680 X 1050 on it and a 17" in 1280 X 1024 both running from the same card. You can run them as separate screens or as one extended screen (as I am running).

You don't really need that second card unless you are going to run more than two screens.

To CyberZeus:

ATI just confirmed what Archie123 stated. It can't be done.

To Archi123:

Thanks for your replay. Need to get newer card or drive both monitor with 4850 like CatsWorld suggest.

To CatsWorld:

The only reason I did this setup, was to make use of an old spare X1300 card and use the 4850 for graphic intensive applications/games only.

The Only trouble I noticed when I used only the 4850 was that the default settings resolution on both monitors would sometimes (not always) be changed by some old applications/games. Since the X1300 was gathering dust, I thought I put it to good use.

Thanks to all for your replies.

Understood. Probably ought to go with a newer card. Good luck!
