| Member | Black Dots On Desktop Background Hi folks, I recently downloaded a wallpaper changer program called Winvista. As soon as I started to play with the different wallpapers on my desktop, I couldn't help but notice that it had completely cocked up! It seems rather odd, behind the display picture there are a series of grid formad dots, very small and regemented. These move around when I open windows over them or when I select desktop icons. I had a go at changing my resolution, display settings, themes, effects and tried using different background pictures. I've restarted a few times and have selected to use different solid colours, but these dots don't budge. The program isn't running now, but I still have the dots! I could try to put up a screen cap of my desktop if it helps? Any info on this would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks. |

| I Tunes hates Me | Re: Black Dots On Desktop Background try diasbling then re enabling Aero , see if that resets anything also you could try reinstalling your GPU drivers although im not sure that will help |

It's a real problem as I sometimes have a smaller image with a white or black background in the centre and adjust the desktop colour to match, so it appears full screen. With this issue going on, I can't do that anymore. Besides, it gives me a headache! Many thanks again Archie! |

| ...... | Re: Black Dots On Desktop Background That tool is really very simple. Download the installer and run it. Then you double left click on the icon it gives you and it opens a screen with all you temperatures and fan speeds etc. You can then look at the readings and see if anything in your pc is running too hot. By what you've described i think your graphics card is dying. I had the same problem with my last graphics card with little blue and yellow dots appearing and eventually it just stopped working completly. |

| ...... | Re: Black Dots On Desktop Background Your pc is runnig quite hot. As a rough guide when my pc is idle i like every temp to be under 40c. You should install more case fans to have better airflow and reduce temps. While this wont fix the problem as your graphics card is probably dying and will need replaced, it will mean that in the future this is less likely to happen again. |

| know-it-all | Re: Black Dots On Desktop Background his GPU temperature is fine. his CPU temperature of 50 degrees celcius is a little bit warm if thats taken during idle. During load 50 degrees is nothing to be worried about though. As said before the problem might be with aero or something. I recommend using system recovery and switch your pc back to a date before you installed that application. Windows uses its own image viewer to 'display' a desktop background picture. This displaying also includes 'smoothing' of images if the image resolution is smaller than desktop and you display it fullsize anyway. It might have happened that that application changed the software used to display your desktop background to its own viewing software and that that software doesn't 'smooth' out the upscaled images. This is just me guessing btw, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's your problem. I HIGHLY doubt somehow that little program messed up your hardware. If you still can, do the system recovery. Or if you can't do that anymore, try using windows recovery disk to 'fix' your install of windows. |

Also, I'm unable to make a disc for it, it's greyed out, as if my laptop doesn't support it... It always has been and I've had the laptop from new! |
