How do i upgrade my graphics card?

I had my computer repaired a few months ago and since then whenever i open certain programs it tells me that my my video card does not meet the requirements and that i need one that is compatible with DirectX9. I checked display adapters and it says that i have the standard VGA graphics adapter. What can i do to upgrade it???PLEASE HELP!!!!I'm terrible with computers!

What kind of computer do you have? Have you updated it since you got it (adding stuff inside)?
Also, that is the drivers, they probably did something where those became uninstalled, because nothing is "Standard VGA Graphics" every company gives their cards names.

My computer is an acer aspire M1610 and i'm using vista home premium 32bit with an Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2140 1.60GHz processor (i have no idea what any of this means) I haven't upgraded it since i got it. I think i'll just have to do some research and get a new graphics card.

Do you still have the disc that came with your computer ?, if so, put it in the dvd drive and run the driver install wizard, this will re-install all your drivers.
