Vista Tutorial - ati radeon hd 3650 graphics card trouble with resolution

ati radeon hd 3650 graphics card trouble with resolution, I replaced an nvidia card with this nice shiny new ATI... all the drivers and catalist installed perfectly. I have an ACER - AL2216W 22" widescreen (which I also have the driver installed for), I found that the best resolution available was to set it to was 1680 x 1050 and everything was fine
BUT !!, Everytime I leave that sucker alone for a few hours it mysteriously reverts to 800 x 600 !! I am then able to reset it to 1280 x 768 and it stays .... (If I didn't know better, I would think my chocolate Lab was changing it behind my back LOL)!
1280 x 768 is ok, but not what I'm looking for .... Any advice ? I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling, you name it, FYI I have the new Vista update 2 (the one that just came out) installed and all other updates and attempted to contact ACER, but they were usless.
Also I have an HP m8120n with Intel Quad Cord processor. it came with the nividia card, but every doggone time I did the video update, my screen went blank and I had to get into safe mode to restore. Hence the ATI card.

try updating the catalyst control center. i run ati video also and have never had any trouble with there updates.

it might just be a bug in the version that came with the card.

I asctually did install the latest updates off their site

your card or monitor might not fully support 1680 x 1050.

some times the card does but the monitor wont, and vise versa

Go to HP Support & Troubleshooting site. Select downloading drivers and download ATI Radeon HD Graphics Driver Update.

ok i have had both that card and monitor.... i can tell you from experience it is not the card or monitor.... look in your hp settings and see if it has something that changes the res...... that was the problem i had with my acer until i disabled it

it also could be the service pack 2

On that particular Monitor, I'm sure your resolution is as it should be at1680 x 1050,and the critical item is the refresh rate..should not be higher than 60 mhz. The wrong refresh rate will cause the issues you are having plus some worse ones on systems I have seen. Hope that helps.

yeah me also. but i have never had that issue as mine has never moved from 60
