He should be able as long as an architecture difference with his laptop isnt conflicting, but why do you say "as long as your psu is up to it"? sorry im being an ass here but dont laptops run on an external cord that pulls what ever it needs meaning not a need for an internal psu?

or they "might" run of a battery through a voltage regulator sometimes ;) ;)

just saying. any battery is able to handle a mobile GPU. it just matters how long it can hold it. say a 3 or 6 cell battery difference. i know what you mean by that now.

no mate thats not the case it depends on something called its power rating its amp hour or milli amp per hour with a battery (Mah) the higher the more powerfull the battery (and usually the longer its charge life) , the more power the hardware requires the higher Mah required from the battery , if its too small it cant supply the hardware with enough power , the hardware will fail or run slowly

high end laptops have more powerfull batteries

what if the laptop runs on power supply plugged in and not using battery? does it make any difference?

thats probably always your better bet. since i think in a laptop, it bypasses using power from the battery and runs it from your AC line. of course all while recharging the battery too.
