Vista - Display randomly shuts off

The display on my one month old HP Pavilion dv7t Entertainment PC randomly turns off. All the power lights remain on and I can hear it running.
My graphic card is 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 4530.

Any advice for what I should be checking? Why this might be happening?

Have you checked the power options in Control Panel? Change the plan settings to High performance. Then edit the plan settings and turn standby off.

Frostmourne, Thank you for your reply. I checked my power options and they are currently set to HP recommended. However, it is not simply my display going to sleep. It randomly turns itself off and does not come back on without restarting my laptop.

Hi Loril, have had the same problem and appears to be very common with HP where the machine dosent seem to drop into sleep mode properly and you have to hard boot to recover from it There is a very good tutorial in VISTA TUTORIALS at the top of the page under Power Options / Fixing sleep mode issues. In the end i found sleep mode would work OK if i pulled out one of my Ram sticks and in the end the only way i could get it to work was by purchasing two identical sticks or only running on one with only half my ram. You will find this is quite common in certain HP forums.
