Ati crossfire curiosity...

I have a question regarding the amount of GPU's someone has tried with crossfire.

HAS ANYONE TRIED 4 SINGLE 4850's, 4870's, OR EVEN 4890's IN QUAD CROSSFIRE?

They make their boards with 4 x16 PCI-E slots, but ive never seen 4 single gpu's before. only 2 4870x2's, 2 4850x2 or even 2 3870x2's.

If anyone has seen a setup with this, can they please confirm is it possible?

It is possible: - this a 4890 quad fire (I found more setups but can't find them again )

But it's ultimately pointless for gaming as the gpu scaling is terrible. Even tri-fire only delivers marginally better performance than dual crossfire due to GPU scaling.

It's more of a e-peen, benchmarking deal.

Lol dare i say pointaless?

it does look cool with all that transparent plastic though .

I wish Nvidia made their coolers somewhat like ATI/AMD's and mdae them green transparent, but still with the front decals for third party sellers.

I just use 3 9800's because im beefing my system up for the future.

Not even everyhting in my pc it utilized, like my quad core and my 8 gb of mem.

Re: Ati crossfire curiosity...

i know someone running 4x 4890's , CFX scales far better than SLI does when using over 2 GPU's, but its far from practical......

you certainly dont get 4x the performance....

True... more mature drivers will fix that when time passes.

Knowing ATI and their driver releases.... I wouldn't hold my breath on that one

Yes.. it is up and down for both Nvidia and ATI sometimes.

What they are focusing on is the new hardware and games with their newer drivers and forget about many older parts that other's are still using.
