Images are all squished vertically

I recently did a clean install of Vista 64bit and installed an ATI Radeon HD 4350 card at the same time. I'm running a Dell LCD monitor at 1600x1200, its native resolution. I have checked the device manager and there are no warnings associated with the card and I have checked to be sure that I have the latest driver.

Until the Vista install, I was using Windows XP Pro with no distortion. I had a gForce graphics card which was not supported in Vista.

I'm a photographer and don't play any computer games.

The problem is that all the images are squished some vertically. Even round graphics like circles are somewhat distorted vertically.

Any suggestions and help are very, very welcome.

Hello Vaughn,
It does sound like a resolution problem, have you set the resolution in Vista and the ATI control panel ?.

Do you have a wide-screen monitor ?

On mine I had to find a setting where I got a high resolution, but the graphics didn't look squashed. You may fiddle with your res settings and see if you have to use a resolution different than maximum settings.

Hi Everyone,

Me and my squished screen are back. I reinstalled the ATI driver just to be sure that I have the latest. I checked the ATI control panel and know that I'm using 1200x1600.

Until Vista 64 and the ATI card I did not have this problem.

All the circles are squished a little vertically.

I'm back. I went to Dell and looked for a new driver. I couldn't find one for Vista 64, but read that the maximum resolution is 1680x1050. So I changed the resolution in the ATI control panel. Now I have round circles and sort of fuzzy type.

I couldn't find any info on what frequency to use. Would a different frequency reduce/eliminate the fuzzy type?

Hi Vaughn,

What is the make and model number of your monitor? What is its stated native resolution?

The monitor is a Dell 2407WFP-HC flat panel monitor. Is maximum the same as native? The only specs I found on Dell were the max resolution specs.

My Computer

I just did a Google search and found the native resolution is 1920x1200. Plugged that in and got razor sharp lettering. Many thanks for your suggestion.
