ATI 4570 Issue

cope

New Member
I've just purchased a dell studio and have a problem with the graphics card - I think.

I'm running Vista Home Premium-64bit, Service Pack 1
Graphics card is
512MB ATI Mobility RADEON HD 4570

Running the operating system is fine, browsing internet and documents etc reveals no problems.

When i insert a dvd into the drive each time without fail i get a BSOD after windows media player opens, sating 'Attempt to reset the display driver and recover from timeout' or something on them lines.

I suppose I'm a beginner, the obvious springs to mind about driver issues or faulty parts etc

Any advice on most likely causes or help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Earlier today I had a go using the official site:

Drivers & Tools | GAME.AMD.COM

when i downloaded option 1 I installed an 'ATX catalyst driver', it says the latest version on the website is 9.8, does this refer to the driver? as after the installation the driver for the graphics adapter still reads 8.553.2.0 on the device manager which leads me to believe im installing a driver for something else.

Video's in my web browser are fine, music in media player is fine, im yet to check a downloaded video in media player or test a dvd in another program instead of media player as the laptops only a day old and ive been abit stuck for time today.

yes 9.8 is the driver and it sounds like you have a old one, try getting the new one :D

From the official website i posted a link to earlier the installation doesn't seem to have the display driver although it does state it in the description.

After execting the .exe I get to the stage where i select what I want to be installed:

driverinstall.jpg

This is the same for both packages. I've looked around for the driver on different sites but some seem abit dodgey. Any chance you can clear up what's going on with this download or direct me to a site with the driver available.

Thanks

I've found the driver file in my the ATI folder in program files.. When installing the driver it states:

This package requires ATI catalyst install manager to intall. Would you like to launch ATI catalyst Insall manager to install this package.

I've already installed this I'm sure but I selected yes.. The manager installs and then nothing.

In the directory, the file for setup information reads:

[Version]
Signature="$Windows NT$"
Provider=%ATI%
ClassGUID={4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Class=Display
DriverVer=07/14/2009, 8.640.0.0000
;;LayoutFile=layout.inf
CatalogFile=CH_85216.CAT

Im guessing thats the latest driver, as this was downloaded from the link I posted earlier. After running the installer package the device manager still tells me I'm operating with the driver version 8.553.2.0.

Ive also tried removing the old driver before installing the new one, it never worked and I used system restore in order to get back to square one.

If I keep using a trial and error method, could the continous BSOD's cause any further damage as I don't want to test things in order to avoid the system restarting and giving me piles of minidumps.

Also, could the problem be the driver for the disc-drive?

i'm off to university tomorrow this is the last thing I wanted :shock: ! any further suggestions appreciated, thanks.

Edit: Could I also just add that 4570 is part of the 4550 series of drivers, right?

it should be part of those drivers um.... it could be the disc drive you could try that..... did you download the driver from the website and then burn it to a disc or something? maybe you could reinstall vista? last time i had any driver issue that did the trick

No just ran the installation from the file i downloaded, the reason i say that is because the BSOD only appears when the disc drive is in use, or more specifically when i try viewing a dvd. I will keep having a fiddle with different things if all fails i'll just try the reinstallation of vista, i've only been using it a few days so it shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for the help

My Computer

Ok, I've managed to find a way around the problem.

Instead of auto-playing in media player, i changed it to Power DVD. The film runs smoothly, I've tested it numerous times.

After abit of research I found it to be a problem which modern drivers are yet to rectify, fingers crossed the bug will only be with media player.

My Computer

ok thats good, um keep looking for drivers for your disc drive then :D and for media player
