Hello, my bro has an xbox but also games on his pc a little. So my dad said he will buy him a graphics card that is 100$ or less.
He has everything I have except for graphics card (His is onboard Nvidia 8200) and power supply ( 430 watt power supply)

What is the best graphics card my dad can get him for this price?
(We would like nVidia)

Have you taken a look at the ATi Radeon HD 4670 series? They are pretty good cards.

He said he wants Nvidia. And has a budget of $100.

The 4850 and 9800GT are pretty even in terms of performance as well.

I would like nVidia, he is going to use it for games. I heard somewhere that usually nvidia gets more frames than ATI. Is this true?

the HD4850 is the clear performance & ''bang for your buck'' choice out of the two.. ;)

(Hardspell)

if he wants to stick with Nvidia, he should be looking at the 9800GTX+.... this card has comparable performance to the 4850, (but still slower in most cases)

i thought of that first but according nvidia it needs a minimum 450w with 24A on the 12v rail , he has a 430w psu which could be fine but as its a pre built with onboard theres no way the 12v rail will be beefy enough i dont think , i suggested the GT as it'll run on his current psu

if you look here http://www.legitreviews.com/article/731/17/ you see that both the gtx+ and 4850 use about the same power wise , so personally i wouldnt recommend either of them without a psu upgrade

hm... a 4850 should run on the 430 watts..... it really only needs about 100.... it all depends on what he has on the 12 rail

but what are you basing that on mate? look at that link , on load the 4850 takes 235W alone thats a big chunk it takes more than 100w when idling . ATI recommend 450w as do NVidia for the GTX+ and at least 24A on the 12V rail , if thats a shop bought pc with onboard graphics the psu wont be up to the task it may throw up allsorts of issues

those "recommended power" ratings are ridiculousy over stated. Dont sweat it if you have a decent 430 watt unit, youll be fine.
