Help, I did something stupid

Okay, so I'm a fairly incompetent fellow when it comes to operating with Vista, but this is a new low for me. I got an old game (Advent Rising) and it would not work with my new video card. Using some kind of addled mental thought process that only makes sense at 4 in the morning, I figured that turning the card off would somehow work.

Yeah, don't ask me why I thought that.

Anywho, I went to Device Manager and selected my video card (A Nividia GeForce 9800 GTS) and right clicked, then selected "disable."

The screen went black. I restarted and windows started up, but after it finished loading windows, the screen went black and I heard the windows start up noise, then the sound of my CD autorunning (Fallout 3, very distinctive start up noise).

So, the problem is everything WORKS. Nothing is broken...I've just done something really stupid.

How do I turn the video card back on?

And yes, I've tried starting in Safe Mode. it loads up to crcdisk.sys and freezes.

...help?

Re: Help, I did something stupid

Isn't there an option in the BIOS that allows you to turn on the onboard graphics?

I don't know.

Is there?

If there is, how do I turn it on?

I know how to get to the BIOS, but it kinda looks like a load of gibberish to me.

can you get a copy of the vista installation dvd and do an offline system restore? as explained here > System Recovery Options, just select system restore and load a restore point before you disabled the graphics card

Re: Help, I did something stupid

you are assuming he had system restore turned on, namewithheld do you have system restore turned on? if not your options are pretty limited. is this a store bought computer or something you built?

Re: Help, I did something stupid

This is a store bought computer, with a new video card that I put in there. However, the store (Best Buy) decided to screw me over and not give me a restore disk DESPITE me having paid 30 bucks for it.

And yes, I complained and they bull****ted me and never sent one, and by now I think its a bit too late, as I bought this computer a year ago.

and I have no idea if system restore is on.

Re: Help, I did something stupid

so you have nothing to put it back to the condition it was in when you bought it? i would call best buy and explain your situation, hopefully they will give the disk to you. they might try and milk you for more money though.

Hey everyone!

So, in the end, I backed up my valuable file and reinstalled Windows, everything works, and I know to never ever ever do anything that pants on head retarded ever again.
