Graphic Card Dropping Sound

I have an Asus graphic card built on ATI chipset, AH3450 with HDMI video and 5.1 surround sound out. When I switch my flat screen tv from HDMI 2, my WMC is plugged into this port, to any other port or input such as my XBox, when I switch back I have no sound and need to reboot my PC.

The sound icon in the system tray will sometimes show a red X other times not. Also on occasion when I switch the TV back TV says no input signal and I have to do a hard reboot. Then all is good again, until I decided to play Xbox.

Any thoughts on a possible solution.

Re: Graphic Card Dropping Sound

I don't want to disable it, if I did then I wouldn't get any sounds through my surround sound system, if I understand your response correctly.

Re: Graphic Card Dropping Sound

Happens whenever I switch my TV to another connection, say XBox, or if I turn off the TV but leave the PC run. Another way to say it is if the TV switches focus to another device or powers off.

I have as a test uninstalled the "sound card" in device manager then reinstalled it without rebooting the PC, this doesn't resolve the problem. If I uninstall the sound card portion of the video card and if there was a red X on the sound icon in the system tray it will remove the red X on the speaker icon in the system tray and when I hover the mouse over the tray icon it will show sound fluctuation on the meter but no sound.

I have also ran as a test unpluging the HDMI cable from the PC and plugged it back in, no change. I have also installed the latest drivers from ATI, this has improved the picture quality and sound play back but has not resolved the dropped sound issue.

Re: Graphic Card Dropping Sound

Documentation says it does but it is not true 5.1, that is it is missing, depending on how you hook it up, either the back speakers or the front speakers with no output of the sub-woofer. Plus the receiver needs to be reset, its an older one, so it requires selecting different settings. With the TV input I can set it and forget it.

Disable it, reboot, then re-enable it.
