Graphics Card or Monitor Problem?

Hello.

I've encountered a problem in recent days concerning either my graphics card or monitor, which one? Im not sure.

It all started a yesterday while playing a game of Counter Strike : Source , I had alt-tabbed ingame and decided to alt-tab back into the game and as i proceeded to do this my computer locked up ... couldn't move mouse or anything.

So I proceeded to restart my computer. This is where everything went wrong. My monitor was not showing any image, only a black screen with the Analog/Digital box flashing.

So I tried a few things to see what would resolve this problem ...

  • Removed all cords, plugged them in agian ect.
  • Unplugged graphics card then plugged back in agian.
  • Restarted PC numerous times.
  • Reinstalling drivers
I'm using a DVI to VGA cable connecting my graphics card to my monitor, if that helps.

I've also tried plugging another monitor into my graphics card, with no result.

Onboard graphics work fine.

I don't have another graphics card to test it on ...

In my computers devices it says the video driver is not installed correctly or something along those lines?

Does anybody have a step by step guide on installing drivers?

Specs are :

Intel Q6600 @ 2.4Ghz
2GB Corsair RAM
500GB Seagate Hard Drive
Leadtek 8800GTX 768mb
Antec 900 Case
Samsung 226BW

Thanks in advance

can you restart your pc but in safe mode to get back to windows while the 8800GTX is plugged in? or is the computer not even starting properly?

Re: Graphics Card or Monitor Problem?

This is weird. On Leadtek's site, it only have a bios fix for the card, but not a driver.
Leadtek - We make dreams a reality

Nvidia drivers from here...
Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers

Download the Nvidia driver. Click on the download and follow the instructions. You should also install the bios fix.

Re: Graphics Card or Monitor Problem?

i doubt it is a monitor problem. if you have used the same gpu but have changed the monitor and no result, it is the graphics card.

maybe the monitor had some kind of virus installed and blew your video card......

Re: Graphics Card or Monitor Problem?

Download latest drivers for your Video & Monitor (lemur already got you the video drivers link, all is missing now is the monitor). Save it to a folder you can get to it later.

Restart in Safe Mode

Uninstall the Video & Monitor Drivers from Device Manager

Go to Control Panel and uninstall the PhysX drivers as well. If it does not allow it in Safe Mode, don't fret, you will do so next time you get to windows desktop... Do Not Forget to do so though.

If you use a Registry Cleaner, this would be a good time to use it.

Restart the PC and once at the Desktop, go look for the drivers you just downloaded. Start with the Video driver.

RIGHT CLICK on the file and use "Run as Administrator", this will give you elevated admin rights and resolve the issue with the drivers not installing correctly. More than likely, the installation of the video drivers will ask you to restart your pc... Do so.

Here's where you needed to Uninstall your PhysX drivers. Well, actually, before installing the Video Drivers, so do that first.

Do the same with the Monitor drivers.

Good Luck
