friend upgrading.

i bought my friend a power supply online, (only because he is my friend) and I got him a Coolmax CA-450 450W. Anyways when i was at his house, i noticed he lagged alot ingame, since i owe him, i wanted to gift him a video card, with my spare money

the specs for the PSU is

Max. Output Current: +3.3V@30A, +5V@45A, +12V@22A, -5V@0.5A, -12V@1A, +5VSB@2.5A

i see that the 12V rails have 22amps on them, it should be sufficient..

i was thinking of a 8800GS, Or 9400gt?
he doesn't game much after his parents put parental control on his computer,LOL

but anyways is a 12V@22 good enough for a 8800gs?

Re: friend upgrading.

nvm, it is good for 40$

Re: friend upgrading.

That psu has no upgrade potential and the 9400GT would choke on current games. If your friend plays games pre-2005 that will be enough.

Re: friend upgrading.

Then it will be fine. I still wouldn't pay for a card that is basically obsolete to play old games, but for what you want, a 9400 is fine. Consider a 9500GT too.

Re: friend upgrading.

Forget anything over a 9500GT. Not enough power. ATI is ok too, an 4670 might work.
