XFX ATI HD 5770 Help!

Hi, my recent Nvidia 9800GTX has become faulty e.g. flickering and fragmented screen and the computer wont start up. It is not a Mobo issue since I can enter the BIOS etc. I just bought an ATI HD 5770 and placed it in the computer. Everything runs fine until I choose whether to start it normally or in safe mode as neither option works(It just waits at the screen for hours nothing happens). I cant uninstall the drivers from the 9800 since the comp wont start. Any ideas on getting the new card to work without going to get it serviced etc please. Thanks

Try using driver sweeper in Safe Mode to clean all the Nvidia drivers/software.

Does your motherboard have onboard video?

I just re-read your first post and I didn't notice the fact that you tried entering safe mode with 5770 installed :o

Since Safe Mode uses the VGA driver, I just assumed it would be fine to use the 5770.

No, it doesn't :(

I'm sorry to say I'm currently out of ideas. Hopefully someone else can think of something in the interim.

Hello Kraz,
When in safe mode it lists the drivers it's loading, where does it stop ?, also, remove all but keyboard and mouse USB devices.

If anything is overclocked, set it back to default.

What screen does it sit at when loading, how far in to the process does it get ?.
Was the 9800 at fault in the first place, do you have another PC to try it on ?.

You could try removing all but one stick of ram, i have had Asus boards for years and they can be picky about new hardware.

It may be worth looking to see if the Bios is up to date. (if you update the Bios, do it through EZ Flash in the Bios, not through any software that Asus may have given you).

If you have a Vista disk, you could try a repair install, just to make sure all the system files are OK.

These are in no special order, just things i would do in your position.

Take a look and let us know.
