Windows Photo Gallery Stopped Working

Windows Photo Gallery has stopped working. When I click on an image, the application comes up and it appears it is attempting to open it, but the little vista circle just keeps going.

Try to uninstall it, and then install it from the Microsoft site. If it doesn't work, reply back.

I was not able to find a download for windows photo gallery on Microsofts website. It looks like it only comes with the operating system software. Do you have another suggestion?

Right, there is nothing to download because WPG is an integral part of the system. It is possible that you have a corrupted WPG file or .dll. You can always try sfc /scannow in elevated cmd and hope it fixes it. But try reboot first.

Hello. I have rebooted several times and still no luck.

I'm not computer savvy and don't understand all the terminology. WHS mentioned sfc / scannow. Can you give me some more details on how to do this.

My Computer

OK boomer, here you go: hit start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt, right click on Command Prompt > run as administrator, then type sfc /scannow (note the blank in front of the slash). That will take a little while to scan It will either find nothing to fix, or it will fix some and/or it will be unable to fix some and put them into cbs.log. That cbs.log you can open with Notepad and see which files are corrupted.

Hello WHS. I tried the scannow. Verification was completed up to 53%, then it sent out a message saying "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation." I may have some serious problems.

My Computer

Hmm, I am not sure what`s going on. If it did 53%, that`s a good sign. Maybe it was just a hickup. I suggest you try again. If it gets stuck again, we`ll have to think of something (not certain yet what that will be though).

Update: See also the next 2 postings.

Hi guys, the recommendation if sfc /scannow will not complete its task is to then try running it in safe mode :)

There you seem to have a real little problem. How do you feel about a reinstall? I know it`s a pain, but if properly planned it can be done in 2 hours.

A reinstall of Vista maybe the best option. I'm noticing that my print command does not seem to be working also. Do you have (or know where I can it) detailed instructions for reinstall? Also, what are the risks, being that I have never done it before?

My Computer

There are really no risks, just a lot of work if you have a complex environment like me. The first rule is to save everything of your own files to an external device (disk or stick - no CD). Make especially sure you have all the product keys for products you paid for. The rest is just slaving along (I am just doing it with my Vista after I reinstalled my Windows7 a couple of days ago).
If you tell me the make of your PC, I might have the procedure how to reinstall. If not, we`ll look for it. And once you have done it, you`ll be a pro. Ah, also tell me how old your system is. When did you buy it and with what SP level (none, 1 or 2). The older the system is, the more work it will be, because of all the backlevel updates. But again, that`s just boring work, no rocket science.
