Longish story, the drivers just wont work.
I was running a 8800GT 512mb, and I had loads of problems with it.
So I got a nice new ATI 4870 1GB, wacked it in and now have driver issues up the arse.
I formatted my hard drive made it nice and clean, reinstalled the driver played a game for a bit then....... the display driver stopped working!

Im sure I have fitted it correctly with the right power suplier

The driver version is 8.671.0.0 [reading that from the device manager properties]

Any ideas? Anything that might help would be great. Maybe im missing some sort of driver or something.

So right now and about to throw this out the ****ing window and buy a nice easy consol for 1/3 of the ****ing price and no ****ing hastle.

oh yea heres everything else in the box

Had you installed the right driver VIsta 64bit?? It should be on th cd itself.. make sure that you update your bios.. hope your motherboard is not faulty.. as this card is a good.. issues with it are rare.. can you run a hardware test??

Hello marmalde,
I'm running two of these on an Asus P5Q board, (see specs), with no issues with this driver.
I would think it's more likely to be hardware.

this problem seems really temperamental sometimes I turn it on and the graphics are all messed up, others it comes on randomly, or whenever a game is on.
So im thinking its maybe I fitted it a bit roughly and broke my motherboard, is this possible?
Maybe my monitor had worn out, ill test the monitor theory today using my mates.

Also when it messes up a little pop up at the bottom say something like 'Display driver stopped responding and has recovered' then its back to normal, but sometimes it doesnt go back to normal.

well true but gpu's tend to run hot anyway..... what kind of cooling do you have in your case? you could use something like gpu-z to check your temps

I've tested an older 8800gt in my system and it worked without the problems the ATI had, so im now planning on sending the ATI back for a replacement.

where can I find older drivers?
If you link me up ill try them, its a long shot but if it saves me the hastle of sending the card back im up for it.
Also apparantly the current driver is sound and the problem I have seems to be massive, so it will seem strange if the recent driver is only broken for me.
