Fermi- Is it worth the wait?

Hello, as you all know christmas is right around the corner and im sure many people will be looking forward to that new SSD or Gfx Card.
I really wanted a 5850 for my system but im kinda stuck wondering if i should save it until the Fermi cards come out.
like anybody know SPECIFIC details of it?
i do lots of media rendering and stuff like that so CUDA would be nice
right now im just on 4870.
but what do you guys think will happen?
Will NVIDIA pull out with some iRobot technology stuff like always or will it fall behind this year.
just say your opinions. i know theres no way to compare since they arent out yet.
no idea when they will come out. so yeah..

um.... chances are they won't what they claimed.... since the die cast process has given them trouble.... they prolly will be much slower than most.... i highly doubt it will be faster than the 5870 much less the 5970...... maybe it will be as fast as the 5850.... but i'm doubting it

yes, until nvidia's fermi is released, ati are charging whatever they want for their latest cards due to lack of competition.

They havent released any details on the geforce cards because they're hyping up the tesla based cards instead since they already have a good consumer base for geforce, hence tight lid on everything.

I am still running everything maxed on my 8800gts 512, so you should be safe fo another few months, unless you plan on buying bad company 2

''Fermi'' is gonna be a while....:(, but IMO it will sit between the 5870 & 5970 in terms of performance.

Nvidia's new architecture is going to be aimed more at the workstation apps rather than gaming, so if this is your thing i'd at least hang on untill we can get some concrete info...(probably early next year will see leaked info on this product)

if your into gaming & want some DX11 action now, go with the 5xxx, it'll wipe the floor with the 4870 your using & it OCs well.....

ATI are all about the raw power with the 5xxx series, its a great range that i wanna say is a little pricey but the more i look at the results in comparison to the current ''Geforce'' range you see your actually getting what you pay for..

i was hoping to go ''Fermi'' this Christmas but after hearing a little about Nvidia's aims with this GPU i was a little put off, add to that Nvidia are creatures of habit & if we think the HD5xxx is expensive just wait until you see the ''team green'' prices

so, as im an AVID gamer i bought a HD5970 :p (YES pizzaman im heading over to ATI), this card is an ABSOLUTE MONSTER!! & will remain ''the king'' far after Nvidia'a offering is released.

if your looking for some raw power gains & blistering gaming performance, then go ATI

if you dont mind the wait & want a more refined product which is more of an ''all-rounder'' in regards to its capability, hold on for ''Fermi''

that's what i think......:)

you can OC the 5850 to 5870 speeds, but in order to get the core above 775mhz you'll need to flash the cards BIOS to a 5870 one.

but once OCed to 5870 speeds benches show the 5850 is only 5% slower than the 5870 even with less SPs :)

More like due to the fact that they can't get enough chips to meet demand,

Demand is high, supply is low; you do the math.

here's the ''rumored'' Fermi specifications, just as i predicted it would appear GT300 is set to compete with the HD5870.. ;)

NVDA_GF100_Specs_560.jpg

i also heard upon the release of this new tech, its firstly only going to be released to OEM builders...... the general public (Retail) will have to wait another 3-4 months to grab one....:(

so end users could be looking at late 2010 for this product...

i also heard upon the release of this new tech, its firstly only going to be released to OEM builders...... the general public (Retail) will have to wait another 3-4 months to grab one....:(

so end users could be looking at late 2010 for this product...

Its a plan to help the industry , apparently us "self builders" are doing them out of valuable pc sales , this way the guys who cant wait will have to order a pre built overpriced PC , expect this to start happening more and more as us pc users get shown the finger on a regular basis.................buy an X Box ;) (coming from somebody who is addicted to MW2 ;) )

Lol, so your whole setup currently is setup around AMD/ATI products.

You HAVE tried NVIDIA right? XD

But anyways... i have faith in nvidia's gt300. the fact that they still have a seperate shader clock is really a nice boost towards their architecture form ATI/AMD's
