DX11 Major Compatiblity Problem

Hi people. I recently discovered that none of my games were working. They all came up with errors. After a while I reviewed my DXDIAG and noticed that I had DX11 installed. This is odd because my graphics card is an "Nvidia Geforce 8800 gt". For those of you that don't know, it is a DX10 graphics card. DX11 is totally incompatible with my card. I believe that this is related to my OS aswell. I know that vista has a patch that included DX11 and I think thats what did it.

Bassically I need to know what to do and if anyone is experiancing this.

I understand that the only way to roll back to DX10 is to buy a program that will use the installation from my origional vista cd. I do not want to pay for something that was not even nessary in the first place. Plus I don't have the origional cd's anymore so that means that I might have to buy the cd again! Thats a lot of money to be spent on something so idiotic.

There must be another way to solve this that doesn't involve me spending money. Any help would be greatly appreciated:p Thank you.

Here is my DXDIAG. I know it is long but it might all be needed.

Hello Zecronious, dx11 came through the monthly Windows updates around 20-30th october, I dont have a Vista machine handy but if i recall correctly there was only about 4 important updates that month.
As Kword said in the above post you may be able to define which one it is via installed updates and see if it is able to be uninstalled from there

Thanks for the quick reply.

There are 26 different updates that I received in October and 8 from the 20th-30th.
Here is what I got:

20th: Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.67.940.0)

22nd: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 8 for Windows Vista for x64-based Systems (KB974455)

23rd: Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.69.18.0)

27th:Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.69.144.0)

28th: Update for Internet Explorer 8 Compatibility View List for Windows Vista for x64-based Systems (KB975364)

28th: Update for Windows Vista for x64-based Systems (KB960362)

28th: Update for Windows Vista for x64-based Systems (KB972145)

30th: Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.69.301.0)

Can you or someone else tell me which update it was that included DX11 and if so how would I go about uninstalling it?

(kword88)
"Can you restore to an earlier date? or uninstall the update that had dx11?"

The furthest back I can go for restore points is the 4th of December I think. When I go to the restore center I get an option to look at restore points older than 5 days. This is still not enough. Especially If I wanted to go back a couple of months witch really would not be desirable.

If I wanted to go back say 2 weeks how would I do that?

I didn't have the problem then. I might even try the 4th because that could possibly work. I just need to check with other users of the computer if a restore would be okay.

My Computer

Sorry the only ones it could be would be KB972145 which is an update for Media Player (which isnt it)
Or KB960362 which is this Download details: Update for Windows Vista (KB960362) which i dont know
I dont know if the updates were different for x64 from x32 which was what i was running at the time
I am sorry i cant be of more help but i am sure someone else will be

Hello Zecronious,
Could you please tell me where you heard/read that your card was not compatible with DX11, it wont utilise DX11, but it is compatible with DX11, DX has always been back-wards compatible, having DX11 wont make any difference to the running of games, or stop your card from working.
I think you need to look else where for your problem.
Hope this helps, good luck.

Okay I guess that's not the case then. Sorry.

This is what I read on another page but yes it is totally wrong.

"They barely support DX10. Unfortunately, they cannot handle DX11. "

Can anyone please tell me why this is happening? Turns out I lost that restore point and now I am really stuck.

what games are you trying to play? and what specific error messages are you getting? (and could you please fill in your system specs? it may be useful to somebody who may have run across this problem before)

Hello Zecronious,
Can you please list your full system specs, and what problems you are having, include in that, all error messages and anything else you can think of that might be helpful.

Just check that you have the latest drivers here, use option two.

Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers

Just check that all your system files are OK. Follow this tutorial.

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/66978-system-files-sfc-command.html

This tool will check for any malware, download, update, and run.

Malwarebytes.org

Use this to check your registry. (Back Up Registry When Prompted)

CCleaner - Home

Also, can you download this and run, post the log with your next post. (do this last).

Trend Micro HijackThis - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com

You should go to your MB makers site, there you can update your chipset, and your sound drivers too.

I hope some of this will help, carry out all of the above, then post your HJ log, good luck.

My full system specs are as shown above "DXDIAG". Simply scroll through for details information.

My drivers are up to date.

I would like to try the SFC Command and will but after I speak with my father who has far more computer knowledge than myself. I will do this tomorrow.

I will run a virus(malware) scan tonight. I use AVG myself.

I noticed that I must pay for CCleaner. Can anyone offer me something that will do that same but without the price?

Once all of the above is completed I will download and launch the HJ program and post the log.

Thank you very much for that help and I will try to get back to everyone with the results as soon as I can.

CCleaner is free, look for the download tab at that link.
Although AVG is good, i would still run Malwarebytes.

It is normal that it says DX11 in his diagnostic window. Mine does too. The platform update for Windows Vista came out on Oct. 27th.

In a way all DX10 cards ARE DX11 capable because they support the Multithreading feature that comes with the DX11 API. Its a good thing if it actually shows in your diag.

You have two emulators running, i would choose one and un-install the other.

HKCU\..\Run: [AlcoholAutomount] "C:\Program Files (x86)\Alcohol Soft\Alcohol 120\axcmd.exe" /automount
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [DAEMON Tools Lite] "C:\Program Files (x86)\DAEMON Tools Lite\daemon.exe" -autorun

Lastly, i would say you are infected with something, going by all the missing files you have.
Go here and run a full scan.

HouseCall - Free Virus Scan

Good luck and post your results.

Second that Archie. DX11 is not whats causing the problems. Games run fine in DX9 mode on a DX10 card, and the same is true of DX11. Your card is DX10 so it cannot use the DX11 api is all.

Its getting old, been upgrading it over the past few years, mainly the ram and the gpu's. Will hold out till some next year before I build another one.
Yes I understand it that DX11 works with my graphics card. This was already talked about.

Yes while all those programs can be taken off the startup list that will not help. I have been running them for a long time now and have not seen any bad effects. The computer starts up slower with them though.

You said "all the files I'm missing". So what am I missing? This is a very good lead.

I have already done a scan with the malware scanner you offered. It turned up a lot of adware but nothing serrious.

I am now looking at another option. I can take my computer back to the store, get everthing taken off it and then have windows re-installed. The computer really is just so far gone. I have spent weeks trying to fix this with no results and it seems this is almost my only option.
