Hello all,

I just acquired what seems to be a really old PCIe ATI card that I can't seem to install correctly. I went to the ATI support site and the drivers for the card just don't seem to work. Is there a specific order to follow when installing a GPU -- sorry, its been a while.

It doesn't go into a PCI slot but its the bigger one, looks like a big ole' AGP card but it has a sticker right on the card that says PCIe.

I can only find the drivers for a Radeon HD2600XT and I'm not sure if those are the correct drivers or not. When I first installed it everything went well and it installed correctly but the XP hardware wizard wasn't satisfied. So it doesn't fully install -- note, I do not have the original discs -- but just need the most up to date drivers.

Any help is appreciated. Happy holidays :)

there isn't a sticker on the bottom? there should be one with a string of numbers and the card model should be buried in that

And the sticker says...

Like I said, the ATI installer goes cleanly, but XP isn't satisfied. The fan on the card is turned on and its recognized in device manager but its not installed.

Yes, the top link is what I used and it didn't seem to work. I shouldn't need the driver sweeper though. This is the first time it has ever been isntalled.

hm....... wait a min... what is your psu? i know it sounds a little odd but the higher end of the 2000 series really used some power

in device manager, it shows both the 2600xt and the onboard too? the onboard needs to be disabled either in device manager, but preferably in the bios. your bios hopefully has an option similar to: "disable vga when pcie installed" or something like "display preference [igp>pci>pcie] [pcie>pci>igp]" you'd want to have pcie as priority over pci or igp.
