Annoying Display Adaptor Message - "DVI"

Greetings from a new forum user, in search of help with an annoying problem. I've searched both the General discussion and under Video for an answer without success, so I'm going to apologize in advance if this was answered in antiquity and is obvious to everyone.

Problem: upon wake-up from sleep or cold boot, monitor displays a text box message that simply says "DVI" for about a minute. While that wouldn't normally be a problem, the box is "on top" and can't be moved or deleted, meaning that anything i want to do in that area of the screen is obscured until the system timer shuts it off.

Action so far. On the advice of a technician posting at MS Answers, I've used msconfig.exe to test for a Service that is causing the problem; even with all boxes unchecked, the problem persists. I've installed the latest drivers from Nvidia's site: no change. Have checked for updated display drivers at MS: current driver is latest.

Additional Info: can't be sure, but my loose recollection is that this started around the time SP2 was installed. Video card has only DVI ports, so I can't try a different monitor. Otherwise, video performance is normal, and no other problems are noted.

Any help or advice appreciated.

i'm guessing that the message is from the monitor and not you operating system which would be why you can't do anything to it. for instance, on my monitors, when i turn them on from being powered off, and then turn on my computer, a box will appear in the upper left hand corner which reads Digital. also, if i unplug the dvi connector from the back of my pc with the monitor in standby, the monitor message box will switch between Digital and VGA.

plain and simple, i believe it is just your monitor detecting the signal from your pc and alerting you on screen. there might be a setting in your monitor setup where you might be able to adjust the time the box displays or even if it shows up at all. try reading you monitor instruction booklet or just go into the monitor settings and see by trial and error. most settings are self-explanatory.

Many thanks for your thoughts - much appreciated. Yes, I'd considered the possibility that it's the monitor, since nothing else I've tried has worked. Unfortunately, if there's a setting in the monitor controls, it's eluded me. Will continue to work on it. Thanks again!
