Subtle graphics card error?

Hey everyone,

I'm running a dell studio 1737 with an intel core2 duo cpu P8400 @ 2.26 GHz 2.27GHz at 2GB ram.

And im using an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 Graphics driver.

For a while now (about 1.5-2 months) there's been a problem with my display - its not a huge issue but I'm worried about what it might turn into and to be honest it's a bit irritating. For one thing, the taskbar is semi-opaque when it should be fully black, and additionally, the google desktop button(embedded in the taskbar) has bold, almost doubled over looking letters. Also, I'm not quite sure why, but often application windows such as firefox, if not in full screen, can appear behind the taskbar, aligning with the bottom of the computer screen(this often happens after i take my computer out of sleep or hybernate mode if i had a window open beforehand), though if i maximize that window, the bottom of the application window will align with the top of the taskbar and the taskbar itself will return to full opacity, as if nothings wrong (see pictures). I at first did a system restore soon after the problem started, which did in fact fix the problem, but as soon as windows would update, the issue would return, so i figured it was a compatibility issue that windows would address in a future update, and has yet to do. The final straw was when i tried to connect a projector to the pc and it didnt register it, when the last time i tried this, before i started having problems, it worked fine. So far, nothing drastic has happened, but something is definitely wrong. And help or suggestions? I'm pretty sure the drivers are up to date, i went on support.dell for that and nothing seemed to come about from it, or uninstalling and reinstalling the graphics card.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks a lot!!

My Computer

that's windows aero working as it should. when you have no apps open or if you have apps open that are not maximized, the taskbar will be transparent. however, whenever you fully maximize a window the taskbar will change from transparent to full opaque.

as far as the google gadgets button, i'm assuming that it changes automatically depending upon what state the taskbar is in--transparent or fully opaque--so that when the taskbar is transparent, you can still make out what the button label reads without difficulty. again, my assumption.
