Hello al52 and welcome,
Try this: Go to add/remove programs, and completely uninstall CCC and all ATI drivers.
Then go to device manager and right click on your display adapter/properties/driver details and make sure it is uninstalled.

Then try to reinstall the latest ATI Catalyst 9.12 Display Driver.
Also check to see that your monitor driver is installed and up to date. If the monitor is out of diplay range ( unable to display 1280x1024)it wil freeze.
See if that helps, and post the results. If not, we'll try another route.
:)

Have done as you suggested and all went well but when i goto Advanced Settings/Trouble Shoot. The current settings box is greyed outwith an error message saying your drivers etc do not support this display

My Computer

Go into Device Manager > double click on "Display Adapters" > then doble click on Ati Radeon HD4350 > click the "Driver" tab > uninstall the driver > reboot. Hopefully it will install the right driver automatically.

ok did as you said but as soon as i re booted Vista insalled drivers for my card and when i went to device manager and clicked on update drivers VISTA assured me that i had the latest drivers.

My Computer

Yeah, that would be normal. If it installed the right driver with the reboot, then there is no need to update it again. Question is though whether the "current settings box" is still greyed out and whether you can set the display to 1280x1024 now ??

i can set display to 1280*1024 but on the advanced options i am informed that i do not have the correct drivers etc am begining to think that my graphic card is on the way out.

As long as the screen is performing correctly, I would not worry too much about the messages - although the card may be defunct, somehow. But a card is easy to replace. And a midrange card is not even very expensive. Check at Newegg.com. They currently have a year end sale Newegg.com:Ready to Celebrate the New Year? So are we: $9.99 Samsung Bluetooth Headset…

I bought this one the other day. For $35 you can't beat it: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...C-IGNEFL123109-_-VideoCards-_-LC2A-_-14121336

Sweet deal there WHS. I think I'm going to bit e the bullet and buy a new one this weekend. Looking at ATI 5770 Nice for the price.

dreemwarrior, I assume you have enough juice in your PSU. Usually about 400 to 450 Watts suffice. But if you are working with an on-board graphic right now, you better check the PSU specs of your box (you might have to turn to the manufacturer because they usually don't publish that).

Funny you should mention that. I was told (never thought to question) that I had a 450w PSU No, not onboard by far. I upgraded(sorta) the original 3500 series with ATI 4350. This past week I discovered I'm ony pushing 350w and my internals are seriously underpowered. BUT I have a brand new 700w staring at me right now waiting to go in. My only concerns now are cooling all this down (see my specs) after new hardware.

The cooling should be OK (unless you live in Death Valley). You have a relatively big box with plenty of air.
