Hi folks,

Asus mobo M4A78-E with onboard video
AMD Phenom II 955
RAM onboard 8G
Windows Vista 32bit
Samsung 2494HM LCD Display
DVI connection

Just purchased the captioned LCD display without HDMI cable supplied, only VGA and DVI cables (I'll call the shop selling this display tomorrow)

The max resolution can be achieved is;
1400 x 1050

But the display can support 1920 x 1080 resolution.

However I can't find the video driver for update on;
ASUSTeK Computer Inc.

Please help. Thanks in advance

P.S.
on Fedora 12 (Linux) running on another HD in the same box can support;
1920 x 1080 60Hz

Satimis > I see the issue here, Looks like your running the Standard Display Driver.. Try running Windows Update from Start>All Programs>Windows Update and see if you can find the driver. May be under Optional updates :-)

Another issue, if I may bring it up - You're running 32 bit Vista on 8GB RAM.. Your OS cannot use even 1/3 of the memory. I recommend installing a 64 bit OS

Hi Timmah,

Thanks for your advice.

Problem is half solved after spending a whole day.

Now I have following software installed;
1)
All chipset drivers on Asus CD coming with the mobo

2)
Sumsung LCD display driver, MagicRotate and MultScreen software on Samsung CD coming with the display.

3)
After installation completed update all drivers on Internet searched by Vista program.

Remark:
I have full authority as administrator which was setup on installing Vista. Each time on installing/updating a new software it asks for permission

Now the display is working properly running at 1920 x 1080 resolution at 60Hz and 32 bit color depth.

However still I can't make MagicRotation to work. Its icon is at the bottom toolbar. Right-clicking it and selecting "Rotate 90 deg" doesn't work. Neither the hotkey "Ctrl+Shift+9" works.

Advice would be appreciated. TIA

There is no fun at all. It took me more than 2 hours to install all AMD-chipset drivers and another half hour installed Samsung driver and respective software, excluding the time in running update. This is a powerful PC running AMD Phenom II X4 955 with 8G RAM onboard eventhough Windows can only recognise 4G RAM. The PC is connected to 3M broadband.

I have another HD running Fedora 12 64bit (Linux). Samsung monitor was automatically detected on 1st booting after connected. It runs 1920 x 1080 resolution at 60Hz, 32bit colour depth. Monitor(display) rotation also works without additional software installed. Samsung CD, supplied with the monitor, has completely no use. It is NOT required. It is truly "plug and play".

There is no problem issue on hardware.

I don't know why Windows Vista is so difficult to config and to run. It is also "plug and PRAY".

Good to hear your running at HD 1080 now, I'd recommend personally removing all of the Samsung bloatware - You show be able to rotate display no problem. MagicRotate is uneccessary.

Hi Timmah,

I can remove MultiScreen amnd MagicRotate which are Samsung's software. Then how can I rotate the desktop/display? I have been clicking around on the Vista desktop with the mouse and can't find the item desktop/display rotation. Google found that 64-bit Vista has this option.

Finally I found;
ATI Catalyst 9.1 Software Suite Vista 32-bit
techPowerUp! :: Download ATI Catalyst 9.1 Software Suite Vista 32-bit

Whether it can help?

Hi Timmah,

Sorry I can't find this item "Orientation".

Right-Click desktop starts;
Catalyst(TM) Control Center
Drilling down "Personalize" item there -> Display Settings
Still I can't find "Orientation" item.

Its hotkey/shortcut key is;
Ctrl+Alt+arrow

No response.

I tried to update on MS website. All following updates;
KB938979
KB941649
KB941600
KB925528
The update does not apply to your system

I'm stuck here. Any advice? TIA

Edit:

I found iRotate on Internet saying it works for rotating display;

iRotate 1.37
http://wareseeker.com/System/irotate-1.37.zip/36626cf66

Any idea? Still an external software, NOT from MS Vista?
