nVIDIA 6200 Geforce Issues

Hello, i just joined this forum in hopes of finding an answer to my problem, i have also searched the posts relating to my problem. A few days ago my pc was dropped of a stand with the monitor and everything connected. The onboard gfx does not work anymore (nVIDIA 6100 Geforce 405) and the plug is loose so i installed a nVIDIA 6200 Geforce PCI card, everything is fine till i go to run a high graphics game like WoW or SecondLife. They work for a few seconds then the screen gets all messed up then goes off and back on, then a Hazard Sign in the System Tray pops up that says "Display Driver has stopped responding and has Recovered". Now i know enough to solve certain issues but this has me stumped, i've updated my drivers, even lowered the resolution to try to get the game to work but it does the same thing, now ive had this card in before a few months back, worked fine, then i took it out and went back to the onboard gfx. now the PCI card is giving me issues. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated

Hello Fiera,
There are a few things you can check, things like temp, Is your PSU big enough ?, is the on-board display adaptor disabled in the Bios ?, are all the other connections on the MB secure ?, were there any old video drivers on the system ?, i suspect that there may be more damage than you suspected.
Let us know how it goes, good luck.

thanks, well im not too savvy in finding the temp and such and im not sure what PSU is, i just recently tried uninstalling all video drivers both the one on the MB and PCI, then i went into Safe Mode, and reinstalled them, when i did my normal boot and changed my resolution to 1024x768x32 and tried playing WoW, this time I dont get an error, but instead it just freezes the computer.

Now i first noticed something was wrong when after it fell and i turned it on, first the resolution was reset to 800x600 and the colors were on 16 bit, now i have an older monitor from about 2006, a Dell E551c, well when i would go to change the resolution higher or even to 32 bit color the screen would shut off and all the lights on the monitor would flash until i canceled the changes, im not entirely positive but could it be possible there may have been damage to the monitor to cause the gfx card to fail?

PSU = Power Supply Unit.

Can you check that everything is seated as it should be, in particular, the memory sticks, and all the connections on the Motherboard

There could be damage to the monitor, but it would not affect/damage the video card.

When a PC receives a shock such as a drop, you just have to check everything, follow this tutorial, just to make sure the file system is in good order.

ok, well i checked all my cables and cards etc no problems there, the only thing loose is the onboard graphics plug, i tried last night to use it again but the only way it will/did work was to force the monitor plug hard to the side against the MB, worked about 1-2 mins then stopped again.

My temps are as follows;

speedfanresults.png

i also ran the elevated command prompt and there was no integrity problems

as for the PSU its just a factory one

i have also tried uninstalling all video drivers, and reinstalled the updated drivers for the 6200 in safe mode, but when i install for the 6200 it installs them both, ive also tried disabling the onboard drivers and turning it off in BIOS but nothing seems to be changing. Other than the graphics driver failing and recovering my pc funtions fine. If i need to i will back up my files and do a fresh install on vista, but im trying to avoid that at all costs as i have a lot of software and files on my pc lol, the only thing i can think of is something with the onboard gfx is malfuntioning causing the other to fail, but they are separate so im stumped.

also thanks for all your help so far, i greatly appreciate it!

ok, well i tried what you've said and still no luck, i have also tried installing the drivers with the disk that came with the pci card, that didn't help either. i guess the only option would be to find a new/similar MB, or maybe get another gfx card of the same model, im not sure what would be good for my pc for an upgrade, and i dont have a lot of money to do so. I was also thinking, would it be possible to fix it by reinstalling the OS? Thanks for the help so far!

The bad news is, that having checked the software, the only thing that is left, is the hardware.
When a system gets a severe shock, such as a fall, it can damage the hardware, the trick is to find the piece of hardware that is damaged.
You could try the graphics card, but it would be better if you could borrow another one first, and try that.
If you are having to wedge a cable to get something to work, then you really do have a problem.
It may be better to take it to a repair shop and let them diagnose the problem, they have all the spare parts to try.
