Asus EN8400GS - Error code 43 - Pls advice

Hi,

I've just bought a new graphic card for my pc, after the old one died.
Asus EN8400GS 512 DDR RAM

I've plugged it into MB correctly, started up Vista, installed the attached driver from cd and reboot.
After reboot my device manager showed me there's issue with the graphic card (name recognized correctly), reporting error code 43. It says the drivers have been installed succesfully, but the device doesn't work correctly and therefore has been disallowed and I just can't make it work whatever I try to do/change/re-install.

It just won't accept the new card and still uses the integrated Radeon Xpress 200 series on my MB, which is some probably inhouse Fujitsu Siemens's board made by Asus called ASUSTeK Computer INC. M2R-FVM 1.XX.

My spec:
Fujitsu Siemes Scaleo P
Vista Home 32bit (though 64bit ready)
AMD X2 dual core 4600+ 2.40GHz - 2 GB RAM
MB ASUSTeK Computer INC. M2R-FVM 1.XX
Graphics Asus EN8400GS 512 DDR RAM
ASUS VH242H - Full HD LCD 23,4"

I know many people have been facing this very issue, I googled a lot, but I just didn't find any working solution on this, neither on MS sites, nor here or any other forums...

I've even find a statement from Nvidia about this issue: Windows Vista: Code 43 Error in Device Manager in Systems with ATI AGP Cards and Nforce3
But it dates back to 2007, same as pretty much all discussions & topics I found, and I don't believe this issue hasn't been solved ever since...

Many thanks in advance for any suggestions, I've tried delete and re-install the drivers, getting new ones, other ones, etc., nothing seems to be working.

Only two things I haven't tried yet is to re-install whole Vista and changing the graphics aperture size in BIOS, but as I read on the mentioned discussions, even that didn't help, the reason is somewhere else... Is there really no other option than buying another MB? Thx

Hi Olaf

Try disabling the on-board video in your BIOS and see if the box boots up into windows.
Could you post a pic of your device manager with the video adapter expanded?

Regards

Hello OlafCZ,
Try going to the makers site and download the latest driver, the one on the disk is probably older than you, lol.
Try the newest driver and post your results, good luck.

Hi Lomai,

Thanks, yup, I will try it. It might be some prob on the MB,
I've changed the aperture size in BIOS to 256, didn't try this though.
I'm afraid I didn't do any PrtScr from the device manager, it was only a standardized MS msg saying the HW can't be used properly, because the drivers doesn't correspond to the HW and the card has been therefore disabled by Vista...

I've changed the card for another one, ATI based 256MB, it might the MB not supporting bigger than 256MB, so let's see. On the other hand, now I'm unable to install the drivers properly. Even though they seem to be installed correctly as checked that in both device manager and the card's control interface, Vista keeps on showing the very same msg that in order to use the hardware and its drivers properly, I have to reboot the system, which I've done so many times that it leads me to believe there might be something wrong with that MB. Coz after I restared the pc, the very same msg popped up again... frustrating

I keep you posted and thx again for any suggestions.

To stoneys-nutz: Thx, but this has nothing to do with drivers itself, as I wrote, I've been installing and deleting all possible drivers I've found both on the graphic's card and MB producer's webpages, didn't help at all.

did you remove the old drivers and profiles? just uninstalling and then reinstalling may not cure any problems as vista will still use the previous profile/settings.
what you should do is
1.disable the onboard card and boot to safe mode
2.uninstall the old drivers and then use a driver cleaner such as Download Driver Cleaner Pro v1.5 (freeware)
3. reboot in normal mode and install the correct driver package for that card

take note that you have the card in the first/master pci slot and it has any extra power cables connected. aperture size is an old legacy setting used many for old dos games/graphic apps. some boards may need this set due to old bios code but windows usally does better in managing this.

Issue solved, I had to update my MB's bios and make sure the old drivers really were uninstalled. Then I've just disabled my MB onboard graphics and that was it.

THX Wheelsmith and everyone for help.

Pls lock this topic.

Since you mentioned Aperture size in BIOS

There must be an option like PCI/PCie X16 or Onboard Graphics

It will be a toggle menu.

Make it to PCI/PCIe x16 and start your System.

That should start the card.
