I have an HP Pavilion - nVidia 8500GT - Vista 64 bit. Just bought a new Samsung BX2440 monitor and cannot fill the screen (more than an inch of black all around).

Just replaced an older Acer monitor that also had problems with this same computer but not the same problem.

If nobody has a solution. can someone recommend a 24" HD monitor that will work properly with my PC configuration?

Thanks

you have set the monitor to default settings and then the auto-setup on it and then ran the moniter setup wizard in nvidia control panel? there is also a desktop hotkey feature to zoom/shrink but i cant recall that at mo to reset it to defaults.
you should also have zoom and other size adjustments that is always built into pc monitors, if you cant see this its possible you have a faulty unit.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Yes, I tried all the nVidia control panel options more than once. Went to both nVidia and Samsung sites and downloaded the specific drivers - even tried their troubleshooting. Also tried all the Windows Vista monitor options more than once. Still had huge black space around the screen image.

The good news is after several hours of frustration, I gave up and went to the Windows Update check for the second time that day. I normally check WU everytime I boot up my Vista computer because of the unbelievable number and size updates. This time only one "optional" update came up from nVidia so I said why not. Immediately upon installation the screen went to almost normal (no big black border). Imagine that!

I am still trying to get the desktop icons to arrange without overlapping each other but I can live with manually moving them as needed if all else fails.

Regarding the manual adjustments on the monitor, I know what you are talking about but trust me the Samsung BX2440 does not have any.

Thanks again

Play around with the monitor's settings. You may have to set the resolution higher.
