Graph card not working after reinstalling Vista

Two weeks ago I was having problems with my laptop and asked a friend to look into it. He reinstalled Windows Vista, but somehow left me without most of my drivers. So far, I've been able to reinstall most of them, but I'm still having trouble with my graph card. I have a HP dv6500, with an Nvidia GeForce 7300. I've tried to get the driver from Nvidia, but it says that I have no hardware which can use this driver. When going to my Hardware Manager, it calls my graph card a Standard VGA card.

This totally keeps me from installing games, video editing software or even watching videos: I always get the message that my graph card cannot accelerate.

I totally need help! :(

@johnnyvall did you get Driver Disc with your system.

If yes then kindly use that and install the driver.

That should get the card working

Hello johnnyVall,
Go to the manufacturers site and download, Sound drivers, Video drivers, and most importantly download and install your chipset drivers.

Very often, the only place to get the drivers is from the manufacturers site.

Run this free app, boot into safe mode and run this app, it will get rid of any remnants of any old drivers.
Reboot and install new driver.

Guru3D - Driver Sweeper (Setup) download from Guru3D.com

Go to Device Manager and see if there are any yellow triangles next to anything.

Also, go to the Event Log and check for errors there.

Hope this helps, good luck and post your results.

Okay, well unexpected problem: even in no fail mode, the Guru will not work. It only pops up a cmd window, which promptly closes, and then... nothing...

Also, how do I access the Event log?

To get to the Event Log, go to start > Administrator Tools > Event Viewer.

It may be worth checking the file system. Open a command prompt as administrator and type sfc/scannow press enter and let it scan, if errors are found you may need to run it again until clean.

Its better to download the drivers from the makers site.

HP Pavilion dv6500 Entertainment Notebook PC series

Choose your OS and go to the download page, there, you will find all the drivers you need.

To get to the Event Log, go to start > Administrator Tools > Event Viewer.

I found quite a buttload of errors: 2.8k. 2.7 of them were either 4375 or 4385 Servicing errors. What do I do with that info?

It may be worth checking the file system. Open a command prompt as administrator and type sfc/scannow press enter and let it scan, if errors are found you may need to run it again until clean.

Did so, and did not get anything!

Its better to download the drivers from the makers' site.
