Contrast Ratio 1:700 vs 1:80000 How does it work?

Does higher contrast ratio mean better look or better what ever? How does it work?
im running a

Acer AL1917W LCD Review

but saw a

Walmart.com: Acer 24" LCD Monitor (G245Hbmid): Computers

at walmart but im confused if it is better or worse any suggestions?

i understand that part but would it make it look better in games and such, and is the monitor better than the one i have and will visual be better

Beware of high contrast ratios, they usually mean that you can achieve the highest ratio via a preset mode, my contrast ratio is 1:30000 but I cannot set the ratio myself as it's a preset mode

The dynamic contrast ratio isn't that important. If you're looking for a new monitor, it's best to get one with atleast a 1,000:1 contrast ratio.

I am looking at a LED monitor currently running at 8,000,000:1, with the refresh rate at 2ms

Is LED better than LCD? anyone know? cause i'm wondering

Ive never used an LED display before so I cannot compare, the reason it has a high contrast ratio is because it doesn't use a backlit display like an LCD monitor, the backlit display on LCD's is the reason they have low contrast ratios compared to other technologies out today, I would hold off for now and get a cheap LCD until more technologies are released, expect to see a lot of new stuff coming out soon.

(keep an eye out for OLED technology, google it!)

WLED is White light emitting diode, and basically means that it does have a white backlit display, RGBLED is red, green and blue light emitting diode which is the industry standard is most cases, RGBLED is most common of the two, OLED is organic light emitting diode which uses organic materials to display a vibrant picture which means it doesnt need a solid frame to work on, it can be used in transparent displays which samsung have really invested a lot of money into to develop a working prototype at CES 2010 and here it is :

This can also be applied on curved displays to create what you see in the movies (avatar, minority report), technology is starting to get futuristic now and it wouldnt surprise me if some companies made a fully touchscreen OLED display soon!

wow that pic is F*cking Amazing and i cant wait, im 19 and in 50 years anything could be invented, or we can all die from our inventions or fate from a natural disaster. but i cant wait. id buy one if they were cheap. but atm im going after upgrading my processor to a hexa so i dont see that any time soon ill stick to my 700:1 till it dies
