Hi,

my card is not been recognized by windows. My motherboard is DG965OT (INTEL) MY PC IS GATEWAY 3242

1. i made a clean vista installation.
2. i installed all the drivers that i can found for chipset, motherboard (from gateway webpage and intel webpage).
3. i download and installed all the files from windows update.
4. i updated the BIOS.
5. i quit my card from pci-e slot i put it again.

after all of this, i still cant install the drivers. the message that appear is next "The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit."

My BIOS doesnt have an option to disable onboard card, the only thing that i can do is to set pci-e as primary, but nothing happens. Also I tried to disable my onboard card from device manager, then only appear vga standar, and when i try to install the drivers for that
"vga standar card" directly from device manager, the only card that installs is intel graphics g965 (my onboard card).

All this time im been connected with vga cable from my onboard port to vga port on my monitor, but also i have the dvi cable from my 8800 gt to the dvi port on my monitor, but after the issue my monitor never is receiving video signal from my nvidia video card

This card was working pretty good before i uploaded to windows 7, but my motherboard is not compatible with w7 so i downgrade to vista.

Please give somme advices to fix this issue or to know if my card is not will work anymore. If you need more information please tell me.

Thank you.

Thank you.
all you need to do is shutdown the computer and unplug the VGA cable from the onboard card, it's still working off the onboard graphics card and sets that as the primary and will not install the new card until you remove the VGA cable.

Dave, i did what you said but it doesnt work, at this moment im almost sure that my card is dead.

thank you, i will buy a new one, i have limited space to only one slot, so could you recommend me a good single slot card??

My Computer

you could try a 9500gt, i know thats a single slot card, i think most of the newer nvidia cards are 2 bay GPU's (fits in one slot but takes up 2 spaces), i think you're desktop may only handle one of the older GPU's anyway as the power supply might not be upto the job of the newer ones.

Okay... How was this card working before? in XP?

Did you plug you 8800 in? You need a pci-e power cable, it is a 6 pin plug coming off the psu, OR you need a 4pin to 6 pin adaptor.

What size psu do you have? Prebuilts usually suck in this deptment.

Btw, i'd buy a gt240 or even a 9800gt, over the 9500, as the 9500 is crap... but even ati has better offerings in this price range.

hi!!

i was working with vista, i tried to upload to w7 but it didnt work, i tried connecting my dvi cable and vga cable, but the card didnt send any video signal to my monitor, i used this card for more than a year without any issues, after many tests, right now i know that my card is dead. The thing is when I updated from vista to seven i had many problems with a black screen, so i had to restart many times my pc, pushing down the power button, many many times, my mistake, because after a bunch of restarts my card didnt send more video to the monitor, i thing i burn my card after those restarts, and after some tears i analize my situation and i planning to buy a new psu (because current is only with 300 w) and a new card.

Currently im playing WoW with my very old x1950pro card, but pretty good, WoW dont demand a very new card, I put all the video settings at low, and i having more than 100 FPS. So is ok for me. The card that i want is 5770 single slot, is not available yet, but i thing is the better option for people who only have space for one slot.

Whats your opinion, do exist a better option for a single slot card right now?? (no water block, no myth gtx 260)

Thanks

Honestly, a 9800gt and a 450W quality psu will be your best choice, if you stick with nvidia.

Depending on just how much room you have, there are ATI 4850s that have just fans, and no covers, which are amazing cards, but no dx11.

I think the newest card out for your situation would be a 5670.... Or a new case too ;)
