Does a video card affect HD video performance?

When watching youtube videos in HD, especially 1080p, it is not smooth at all, I can manage 720p but sometimes it's jumpy. I have an integrated graphics card ( stock). Does a graphics card affect the HD video performance?

Yes, it can make a difference a poor card can make the video look grainey and cause other distortions.

Well, it's all stock. I've only added 1 more gb of ram to it as far as performance. I just want something that can play HD video better.....no gaming.

Most intergrated cards are good enough for your needs
HowStuffWorks "Choosing a Good Graphics Card"
Go into device manager and update the graphics driver.
