Hello,

I am a 5 year experienced technician and stunned I can't figure this out. Here is my issue:

I currently am running a 24" DVI connected Samsung and a new 27" LED DVI/HDMI connected Samsung in a dual monitor envoirnment. The 24" Samsung monitor looks perfect but the 27" is giving me issues. I can set the 27" monitor to the recommended resolution of 1920x1080 however the following issue happen:

1. The text is really blurry.
2. 1" Black gap around the entire screen, almost as the image is centered in the monitor.

I have already tried:

1. Updated latest Radeon HD drivers.
2. Reinstalled OS, fully updated everything.
3. Installed monitor on my friends computer and it worked perfect.
4. Switched HDMI cables with friend, confirming the cable is working.
5. Device manager shows correct driver.
6. Disconnected second monitor and only used 27" Samsung.

I am running a fully updated Radeon HD 5770 graphics card on Vista 64BIT Home Premium. I have a 750Watt Antec power supply, 4 gigs ram, quad core processor, and everything else runs fine on the computer.

Other Information: 27" Samsung Model # S27A550H

At this point I am stumped and may have to return my new LED monitor :(Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks so much in advance.

Hi Brian, welcome to vista forums, the two issues sound common but not on a PC, they sound like 2 separate issues, the first one is to do with the settings on the monitor itself, the phase is out of alignment, there should be an option to "auto-adjust" that will fix that issue, the second issue is something called video overscan, you should be able to fix that by entering a custom resolution within the catalyst control center (this should also fix blurry text), I can't guide you how to enter a custom resolution as I've not got an ATI/AMD video card to test it out but I know it can be done, I'll try and find a resource for you to help you achieve this.

Hope it helps

Found this guide for overscan settings but it maybe out of date now

Underscan/Overscan settings for TV can now be applied from the Catalyst Control Center - TV Properties Adjustments page

To adjust Underscan/Overscan in Catalyst Control Center (version 9):

right click on the Desktop and choose Catalyst(TM) Control Center

from the upper left side corner, left click and choose Desktops & Displays

find the display you want to configure and right click on its icon from the lower part of the window and choose Configure

go to the Scaling Options tab and adjust the slider as you see fit and click Apply

MrNeeds,

Thanks for your help. I will be home within the next few hours and will give your suggestions a try. From my understanding, the overlay will "zoom" my screen in correct? I was under the impression that is not necessary in normal conditions, and doing that would just be a temporary fix until I resolve the main issue. Maybe I am wrong, thanks for the information.

The video overscan is very much a final solution, it will maintain your 1080p resolution while correcting the black border around your screen, it may very well correct the blurry image as well, as the overscan is effectively a reduction in resolution involving pixel mapping, if it's not exactly 1:1 scale, then the image degrades, this should solve the blurry image :-)
