Well I decided to get a graphics card for my vista basic 32 bit computer. I Put the graphics card in and i boot up my computer and it goes blank, thats it nothing happens. Do I have to install the drivers before? Or whats wrong

-SOLVEd

New problem :(

also i have an intel chipset in my computer do i need to uninstall that?
alright well i switched the settings and put my graphics card in and booted up my computer, successfully my computer has booted up. Oh and just throwing this out there, there was no off feature, there was Peg and VGA and since my card said VGA, I went with VGA.

Now I have another problem, my computer can't detect the graphics card?

No, but what was in the computer before?

Most likely you have an onboard, so you just need to go into the bios, and ensure the card is first boot.

nothing was in the computer before, it only came with a built in graphics intel media accelerator driver. and what do you mean the card is first boot?

Hi,

What I think you need to do is to de-activate the onboard graphics in the BIOS & ensure the newly installed card is selected as the first graphics activation option in the BIOS too.

The bios is the computer that starts the computer... You need to hit delete, or escape when you boot up.

Here's amn article on how:
how to get to BIOS on emachines? - CNET Desktops Forums

Then your going to have to find the onboard video section. Take pictures of the screens if you can and we can help more.

Hi,

Change the top picture PEG/on chip VGA control from auto to off & that should do it.

Give it a go & come back to us. OK?

Just to let you know, 1 beep means all is good. Switch up the setting that lottie showed, i'm certain that its just a misconfig with the onboard.

No, you don't need to uninstall it.

I don't know why it's not detecing the driver though. Have you tried going to Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers and try auto detect.

yeah i have and it cant detect either, i tried my cd and i tried to go to the website and chose my card manually, could it be something in the bios that needs to be activated?

I think that my pc isnt recognizing it at all when i put it in, my fan runs and everything (for the graphics card), there has to be a solution i hope...

Hi,

Have a look in the "Integrated Peripherals" part in the BIOS for the de-activation of the integral graphics.

Also i went into the PnP/PCI configurations in case you want to look at that, I noticed the maximum play load size at 128, dunno if that means anything but i can change it up to 4068, somewhere around there.

OK,

What version of Phoenix BIOS do you have? It is easy to know what you are looking for when the machine is in front of you but not so like this!

What exact model of an emachine do you have? This information will help us track down the correct solution for you.
