Wiped HDD/ Clean installed Vista from CD - Video Card and Driver will not work

    Hello,

This is my first post. I wiped my drive and reinstalled Vista from the Installation CD. My computer is now not recognizing my video card and will not allow me to install the driver for it, it says there is no compatable hardware.

Video Card - ZOTAC GeForce 9800 GT

System is- 32 Bit Vista fresh from install cd

The Video card is not recognized by the Device Manager, or Game Booster. If I try to install the driver from the NVIDEA website - during setup it gets an error and says there is no hardware. I believe it is running on the software that is in the motherboard as I am able to get basic video - but if i run a game like hearts it tells me there is no hardware acceleration.

The tv is plugged into the video card that the CPU is not registering. That is a little bit why I am confused lol. Please let me know what i can to do to fix this issue. Thank you,

    Sean

Hello.. you are not trying a Beta driver are you. ? If so.. just get latest one that is not Beta and retry . Post back results please .

The driver version I attempted to install was Not a Beta - it was a normal driver that I chose based off the specifications of my card. Sorry not at home right now but that was something I made sure I didn't do because I wasn't sure what Beta drivers were - so I steered clear.

Have you updated Vista to SP1 and SP2?

You could try shutting down, pulling the card and then reseating it. Reboot.

Usually a video card comes with an installation disc. Do you have that?

I did a systems check - there where no errors identified. As far as upgrading to sp1 - no Internet onthis computer. Yes I removed and reseated the video card - I see nothin wrong with the motherboard slot or the card itself. Again - the computer runs with a display plugged into the video card - but it is using vsgsafe As the display driver which is the one in the mb I thInk. I don have the installation disk - I used most recent version of software from nvidea on thumbdrive and it is jot recogniZing the software. I don't believe it is the driver software - how can I test a video card to see if it's viable? I don't have another desktop.

No internet. and video not working.. maybe you are right ..not related.. .If you do not think it is a software issue.. then . we need to bench test the hard ware. You can check video hardware here : FurMark
