video card upgrade for my ASUS X1700 ?

I currently have a NVIDIA GeForce G100 in it, 256 meg video card. This desktop computer has a mini tower. Vista Home Premium, sp 2.

I was wondering if the video card can be replaced by a 512meg video card ?

    Thanks !

I can post my dxdiag.txt if requested.

    Can you link your system?
Cause i'm thinking this is a laptop, and while it seems like its actually switchable, it's quite different than a desktop.

If i'm right about it being a laptop, check this forum..... Notebook Manufacturers This is where i got all my laptop upgrade info from.

No, it is a desktop. Look under my hardware specs in this forum.

Probably shoulda looked there but it slipped my mind.

The biggest issue you have is it only has a 220W power supply. No add in card i know of will run on it.

You will need a larger power supply of atleast 300W to run the base cards.

These are your only choices Newegg.com - Computer Hardware, Power Supplies, Power Supplies, Mini ITX
    And they suck.

You might want to consider a new case and psu to stick your parts in to as its just a bit more expensive then a psu update..

But to answer your question, any low profile gpu will work with the proper psu

Not too worried about super, just a slight upgrade will do fine for the game I play. Everquest.

It might be close, but it just might work.

I don't think the case can take a physically larger PSU.

I haven't have a chance to site down and look the card over carefully, so I'll decide after I do that.

No, it can't. Theres only 1 psu large enough to run a decent card on newegg.

That's why I suggested getting a new case and power supply and swaping everything.

Problem for me is when I do that at home, the computer stops working. I do it at work, it is fine. I don't do anything different. Maybe its the carpet at my apartment. I'll think about it.
