Can't Uninstall BETA NVIDA Beta Drivers 163.44

I am trying to uninstall the Nvidia beta drivers but when I try to do it my screen goes black and the computer is at a stand still. The computer doesn't reboot and there is activity on the hard drive. I thought it was just moving along slowly, but it just sat there. I even tried to let it go over night unstalling the drivers but it still didn't work. Any ideas on how I can remove the drivers from my computer and revert back the the WHQL supported Vista Drivers from Nvidia 162 drivers.

I am uninstalling the drivers by going to the device manager.

I know in the past I have used CCleaner to uninstall drivers and also used the add/remove programs section under the control panel in Windows XP, but for some reason I don't see in Vista where there is a selection from uninstalling programs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I was having the exact same issue. Last time I completely exited my anti-virus (Kaspersky) and the uninstall/install went without a hitch. Could have been a fluke, but doesn't hurt to try.

I do have AVG anti-virus but I didn't have that running when I tried the uninstall. Maybe I can try and see if there is some programs still in the background that is running with AVG that is causing the problem. Maybe that will help.

I would STRONGLY advise any who are interested in trying the NVIDA Beta Drivers 163.44 for their 8600GT, DON'T! On my clean install, they produced just about every BSOD you can think of. Finally, they caused half of my RAID0 to go "offline". The only way I could get it back was to delete the RAID volume and recreate it, which puts you right back to square zero, install in the OS.

It's always safest to go with released drivers. But then again, this is a Vistax64 forum, none of us could really be considered non-adventurous users

Anyway, running the beta driver with an 8800GTS, I find it is more stable than the released.

The NVIDA Beta Drivers 163.44 ran flawlessly on my rig until today, I removed them thru the Program control panel, rebooted and installed the newer betas... 163.67 that also run great.

After I did a clean install of Vista x64 Ultimate they betas seemed to work fine. I will try the new beta 163.67 and see how they work. Thanks for the heads up Vladsky.

Just to report, I had the black screen problem going to 163.67. Seems like it might be more to do with Vista than the nvidia driver. When I came back up after the uninstall reboot, Vista wanted to install drivers on its own. When I said no, that was it. Black screen, hard drive cranking.

To boot, I've seen a 20% frame rate loss in my game after upgrading.

Yeah Windows did not like the new beta drivers...I have reverted back to the 163.44 drivers...Seeem to be working good. Make sure thought you install the updates that nVidia recommeneds for Vista.

Installed 163.69 (released today). Sad to say, I still had the install problems, but I got my frame rate back!!
