Geforce 7600, Vista x64 and frame slowdown

Hi all.

Has anybody had a similar problem with the newer geforce drivers where the framerate is fine for 10 seconds, then drops for a few seconds, speeds up again etc etc. you get the picture?

The drivers work fine in XP 32, but when trying different drivers on Vista x64 company of heroes is unpleasant to play.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

My Computer

I've been using a XFX GeForce 7600 GT XXX, Vista Ultimate x64 and the latest drivers. Company of heroes is running fine for me so far. Same before and after driver update.

Sorry this doesn't really help but just thought I'd give you my perspective.

My Computer

7600GT works on DirectX9
Vista x64 requires DirectX10 for proper work.
With Vista x64 your computer is downcloacked if you are using a video card like 7600GT

My Computer

I got x32 Vista, Geforce Go 7600 128mb graphics card, and I get the same problem: gaming is fine for first 10 seconds - 1 minute or so, then it slows down badly.. and never speeds up until restarted.

Getting more frequent.

My Laptop is a Aspire 5683WLMi - I think I might just format and upgrade to XP.

My Computer

I could not get nvidia 7600 agp card to work, I could not get any Nvidia cards to work, With a Saphire 3850 ATI everything is fine maxes out experiece score. the nvidia cards would lock up vista 64 ultimate when ever an elevated propt was required. Lock up not crash so there ws no error message. system would just stop.

What?

All Vista needs to enable Aero is a DX9 card or higher. A DX10 card is not "required". Vista does not downclock DX9 cards; the post right before yours says his 7600 is working just fine.

Company of Hero's is a DX9 game, so if there's an fps drop, it's not because the card and Vista don't get along.

Choogster,

Hi, Did earlier driver versions have the same effect or did this just start happening with the latest drivers? Can you please go into your User CP and enter in your complete system specs so we know what all we're dealing with? Thanks.

Btw, I have 3 Vista Ultimate rigs currently running... one of them with an old AGP GeForce Ti 4400. I don't have Aero on that machine, but everything else works just fine, so the problems you guys are having are not because of an inadequate graphics card.

ok like fumz said we need a full breakdown of your system to be able to help ie. how much ram you have and what cpu you are running, also if vista is using all your resources then look into closing apps that are running that you don't need while gaming vista will release resources as and when needed for your currently running apps
downgrading to xp may seem like the answer but if you are having these problems now then you will still have them with xp no matter what anyone else tells you.

That sounds exactly like what F.E.A.R used to do. This may or may not be relevant, but I found that if you disabled some HID-Compliant devices in device manager, the speeds stayed stable. No more massive slowdowns. I can't remember if that trick was F.E.A.R specific or not.

Hi Choogster.....In addition to the above posts...

COH = Company of Heroes is a highly intensive game, my rig struggles to run that game when the s**t hits the fan.

what GFX card do you have..??

but regarding drivers im running 178.24 & i have 0 FPS dips or problems, so its not a driver issue, it maybe a compatibility issue with that driver on your machine ?, try an earlier driver & see how it runs.

is this happening with other games..??

:)SK
