How to Test the TCP/IP Receive Window Auto Tuning in Vista You might also try turning off the Windows feature Remote Differential Compression. This tutorial will show you how. You can always just turn it back on. How to Turn Windows Features On or Off in Vista Shawn |

| vista ultimate x32 | Re: very slow network file copy Thanks very much for the reply. I tried all the stuff, no joy! I must say, I was blaming vista. vista was not the problem! I went a little crazy buying routers sometime ago. The belkin N1 Vision was the problem!! I reconnected Linksys wrt350n my speed was 9.87 mb/sec. did nothing but unplug cables from belkin put them in the linksys. No more problems!! Thanks again |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: very slow network file copy Your welcome Startfox101, Glad you got your problem resolved. Yeah, with a completely new OS like Vista, some of the older stuff just will not work or work properly with it. Thank you for the feedback, Shawn |

| Vista Home Premium x64 | Re: very slow network file copy I'm having a very similar problem and I am currently in the process of trying different things to isolate the source. I'm running Home Premium 64. I have a Dlink DGL-4300 gigabit router which is *fairly* recent with all updated firmware. I don't have a spare router to try. Is there some way of to know if the existing router is or isnt compatible with vista? Buying another router simply to try is not something I can afford to do. Any chance anyone has a dgl-4300 running a lan that does NOT have this problem? Specifically my problem is in copying files between two comps, one using xp-pro and the other vistax64. Running 10/100 (due to a slower nic on the xp-pro), transfers from xp to vista go at about 5MB/s but the other way goes at 75kB/s. Streaming media in either direction is very herky-jerky. Thanks in advace. |

| Vista Home Premium x64 | Re: very slow network file copy Hi Emfiend, Welcome to the forum. ![]() Did you already try the methods in the tutorial from the post #2 above? They will help determine what may be the problem. Shawn ![]() As per your suggestion, Yes. All that and then some. Turned off auto tuning, turned off rdc, turned off rss, disabled ipv6, and installed all hotfixes/hardware firmware, purged the dns, etc. I'm still holding out hope that there's something I did wrong and that this is easily fixable. The idea that an incompatible router is causing the problem seems plausible since the dgl-4300 was available a little before vista was released. Things I haven't tried yet: 1. putting in a new nic on the xp computer (still waiting to get it in the mail) 2. hard-setting to 100/half duplex on everything (just learned about this today from another forum and will try after work) 3. connecting the two computers together w/o using a router (don't really know how to do this and have been looking for info online) 4. extensive network benchmarking with iperf (this is something I'll also need to learn how to do) As you can see, at this point I'd be happy just to know what the source of the problem is but my lack of knowledge in networking is a bit of an obstacle. |
