Windows did not receive a response from the router

Hello,

I have just got a new laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium. I have a Netgear MR814v2 Wireless Router. My Desktop PC runs Windows XP. My old laptop also ran Windows XP and could wirelessly connect to the Internet no problem. The XBOX 360 can also wirelessly connect the Internet. Its just this Vista laptop which cannot. The laptop can go on the Internet when i plug it into the router with an Ethernet cable.

I go Start > Connect To > Find my router which is security enabled > Signal strength is full > Click connect.

The problem - Windows cannot connect to "**[NAME OF ROUTER HERE]**"

Wireless association failed because Windows did not receive a response from the wireless router or access point."

When i try to connect to other routers nearby it passes the first stage and asks for the WEP Key.

I ran the Microsoft Tool here Internet Connectivity Evaluation Tool The results from running the test from both the Desktop and Laptop was
"Congratulations! You have basic Internet connectivity and browsing, and your Internet router should work just as well with Windows Vista as with your current/previous operating system. However, some of the new Windows Vista features are not currently supported by your router.
"

Although Network Address Translator Type failed on the desktop and passed on the laptop...

What could be wrong?

Thanks,

You might need to update the firmware on the router. I checked netgear site and it looks like your router has a firmware update you might need to apply. The link below takes you there :) MR814v2 Firmware Version 5.3

Please provide feedback and let us know if it works after the firmware update. Thank You
