Vista, new acer and internet connection

I have an Acer lap top, BT 210 voyager router and BT broadband connection. This uses an ethernet connection.
Since using my lap top with Vista (32) my connection has been intermittant. BT have tried everything including checking the line and say everything is OK from their end. I have tried disabling the firewall too but no luck. I am at my wits end as BT cant help but i pay them £15 a month for this ervice.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can solve this problem. i suspect its a software or OS problem. Please try to keep the jargon to a minimum as I am semi-IT literate!!!! Thanks in advance for any help.

Get the firmware from BTs site. Firmware is the hardcoded routines run in the router and every now and then the manufacturer releases new updates..much like software..that corrects faults and bugs in the router.
I had a BT voyager when I first got the internet..they are cheap, nasty and crap. I suggest upgrading your kit to a router such as Netgear. Once I did this all my disconnections stopped. Trust me its the voyager...
